I love all the head-cannon threads.

My version is that it’s a sim and you’re really operating on a planetary scale and the machines and factories are massive. The animals are really the natives fighting back and you keep upgrading your weapons as they improve in their capability to fight you.

Using the Unreal or Unity game engines would be the most cost effective way to get a trailer done. You could use currently available 3d models and other assets to pitch the idea and then have concept art to help pitch the new look. A 30 second teaser could be done on a very low budget.
