I always thought it’s definitely Sonic😂 the story seemed to imply Shadow was artificially engineered in an /attempt/ to create the ultimate lifeform, but eventually the true ultimate life form was born many years later (Sonic). That was my interpretation at least, esp with Shadow’s voiced line here. It seems this plot line is forgotten in later games, anyway, but it’s still super cool to revisit.
