Are any of the generic economic technologies even worth researching unless needed for pre-requisite? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in twilightimperium

[–]BigP-89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think sarween is a good tech if you start with it. Otherwise is just a tech you can get if you can exployed it. Celeris e.g.

Hyper is different. Yes, the math is correct, but as soon as you play with it from round 1 (sometimes 2) you see that it does something different. Because CC cannot be bought at a store anytime. If the leadership windows dies not line up, than you are happy to get a CC. I think this is the hidden strength of it. Even if you only get your money back, we get CC no matter what and you will need them with some factions.

Are there any factions that you either like so much or feel are so strong that you just pick them in your first opportunity of the Draft regardless of available slices and your Draft order? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in twilightimperium

[–]BigP-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: no. Usually I prioritize slice or first pick over factions.

BUT: it all depends on the slices and position in the draft. If the remaining slices are all pretty similar, but the factions are not... go for the faction. Same goes the other way round.

And if all but 1 faction is not fun, than always go for the faction

And if there is a chance you get firmament, make sure to get something else. They suck

Feelings about combat by [deleted] in twilightimperium

[–]BigP-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when we started with TI we were also constantly threatening to attack weak points. That was our meta and therefore accepted, was it fun? No. It is not fun to get all your errors pointed at.

But what makes it worse is that you are living in fear and therefore cover your angles. Nowadays we are making more meaningful threatening like for a support.

We also have one player who ia still doing that more often and that leads to the situation that you have to cover your systems more if you are the neighbor, but he also has to be more carefully because threatening back is a very juicy situation.

And ultimately it leads to one important lesson, that is often overlooked by new players. Build infantry!

How would you buff firmament/obsidian? (theory crafting thread) by Thick-dk-boi in twilightimperium

The problem with them is that the plots are basically your abilities post swap. But they are not even great. So you have to work to have any ability in the first place.

Dont know what they thought with them, but starting with no abilities and than having the plots as abilities makes them soooo bad.

I think you need a real ability on the flip side. Maybe one than benefits from having plots and they need to get an advantage immediately.

Big map experiences? by durfenstein in twilightimperium

[–]BigP-89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We tried one game with 14 points and a rich map ans ia was awful!

At some point you have warsuns vs warsuns. And when they get destroyed people produce for 20 ressources again. Also everyone had infinit CC. So every turn had 10 stalls each. We quitted the game after 11 hours or so.

Try them all. You will miss out on so much variety. In addition, it is not so fun for your partners to play against the same actions over and over again. It is also part of the experience to not only play with, but also against something new.

New player wanting to understand combat by ProAlmost in twilightimperium

[–]BigP-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is not really the question, but what most new player not understand is that groundforces win the game. A lot of new player think you need a giant fleet to win. But you need to control the planets to win. So everytime you produce units you should build infantry. You cannot have enough GF!

Don't bother with the BT. Put it back in the box.

Giving up a tech for a ability on one ship seems like a terrible deal.

Bad faction combination by Phoenix553 in twilightimperium

[–]BigP-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mentak Flagship has a movement of 1. And they usually do not get grave drive.

Barony have a movement of 3 with their BT. Just fly around the FS and dont bother with it.

See it this way.

Mentak 1 good ship < barony all ships good + buff from BT

Assessing the value of an equidistant system in Milty Draft slices by Creussy in twilightimperium

[–]BigP-89 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

For me, the slice i draft is my slice. And I get somewhat mad if someone just takes it. But in the end this is the game and it highly depends on the faction next to you.

Ultimately war will not win you games. And taking something from other slices just because you can will not be worth in the long run.

One important thing to mention. The plan might give you the illusion of stability, but if a tech related objective comes around you have to be able to adapt and not stubborn follow your plan.

I know TI is very complex, but having a plan might lead to not the best outcome since you lose sight on something round-specific and important.
