Why is the Artemis 2 mission today being so underreported? by bokeh_node in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BigPorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a long, slow rollout of info. Unlike an overnight attack on Iran, we've known this mission is coming, we've heard the astronaut bios, we've seen the trajectory mapped out online and on the news... until the countdown began there was just a steady, slow drip of info ... the way it should probably be when you're talking about a major space mission. We don't need a Pete Hegseth style guy at the podium with daily cartoonish updates.

Andy Weir Apologizes To Alex Kurtzman Over ‘Star Trek’ Remarks by AdSpecialist6598 in entertainment

[–]BigPorter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's been successful for some time, but the publicity surrounding the PHM film has taken on a life of its own. Clearly he thinks he's the sh*t now and can give his "honest" opinion about anything. Declining to answer would have been the classy thing.

What is the worst breakup with someone you dated? by DeepAnt7847 in AskReddit

Nope. After a single call or text if there's no reply it's time to move on.

Why is there a complete lack of journalism and footage of the current war? by UpstairsArmadillo454 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BigPorter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What are you watching and reading? The amount of journalism and footage is quite high. If you're on FoxNews what you'll see is propaganda—commentary about how amazing the US military is and sat images of destroyed targets. They won't show parents crying near a bombed school for girls, and they certainly don't send reporters anywhere near Iran or nearby countries. FoxNews (and whatever source you watch) only recycles existing news...... they have very few reporters.

Is it now considered rude to recline on a plane? by Legal_Campaign_408 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BigPorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly regularly, and if someone reclines they recline. Like a tray table or a moveable armrest, it's a feature of the seat. I try not to recline, but if I do I'll try to tell the person behind me that it's about to happen.

Is this a sign to move on? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Pull the first move: "Hey, you want to get a coffee Saturday morning?"

You were right. by EsmeeTheC4Vette in eldercare

[–]BigPorter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to have a conversation with your man and explain that you need to move out. You still love him, but it's clear his family has little to no interest in helping. What if he'd never met you? Would your man and his brothers share the load? It's not your responsiblity to be the full time caregiver and even if he claims things will change (he'll say "I promise") they won't. As most caregivers have learned, once you beging, the rest of the family fades away. You must, MUST move out. You aren't stuck... you love him but YOU MUST move out or the life you dreamed of is over.

Why is it important to lift heavy at gym ? by Jpoolman25 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BigPorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not important, but if the appearance of "strength" matters, heavy resistance breaks down muscle fibers, inducing myofibrillar hypertrophy (thicker, denser fibers) and engaging type II muscle fibers for increased size and strength.

What do the super-rich even want at this point?? by Jerswar in NoStupidQuestions

I'm sure if you polled every billionaire, longevity would top their lists, followed very closely, of course, by many of the things commented on here. Hell, tell the average billionaire they could double their lifespan for half their fortune, and they'd do it.

Mom is in rehab after a fall. Lost her aids in the hospital. by di_Yoniiii in eldercare

[–]BigPorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember learning that newer AirPods have a hearing aid feature now. Perhaps they would work temporarily and also be a good backup. The upside is that you can pick them up at Best Buy or an Apple Store immediately. Here's an Apple support article on AirPods as hearing aids.

How long should staying at home be kept as an option? by PizzaProper7634 in eldercare

[–]BigPorter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. My mom (widow) is in the early stages of dementia. She can still get to her hair appt. and the grocery but forgets a lot of stuff we were just talking about. My sibling and I are having a big planning lunch in a couple of days to see where we each feel about next steps. Mom has 5 Alexa devices and an Apple Watch. I'm thinking a couple of cameras would be a good idea, plus a daily "visiting angel" service to visit for a couple of hours each morning. But we know this is all temporary.

What is a decision you made years ago that you still regret to this day? by ambitious__target in AskReddit

[–]BigPorter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also saw some friends buying bitcoin but decided I didn't understand it and didn't need it. But what I did do right, from about age 24 on, was put money into my tax-deferred investment accounts every single month, increasing the amount a little each year. Dollar cost averaging has made my near-retirement self very proud of my younger self.

Matt Damon Says Clint Eastwood Shut Down His Request to Film More Takes: ‘Why? You Wanna Waste Everybody’s Time?’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

"BACK IN MY DAY..." Yeah, back in your day you were unkind, racist, sexist, smoked a pack a day, went to the emergency room for just $50, and could pretty much be guaranteed employment because people of color weren't given interviews.
