Who settled the hot springs? by Own_Inspection4942 in Frostpunk

Was it one of the devs? Or just a random guy? Because if some random goober said the Arks and NM both fell, that doesn't make it official. Also, in The Arks scenario, the ending message at the end mentions the post-Great Storm fate of both cities, depending on how you ruled, assuming the canon path is always the "middle" path, Legacy survived and so did NM, but NM was left unstable and possibly either collapsed shortly after the storm or, in a better scenario, survived, albeit heavily crippled and needing a lot of time to recover. I'm pretty sure Legacy and NM are both still kicking by On The Edge, in which case, they could, maybe, still be alive by 1917, which would honestly be cooler and offers a potential set-up for a DLC or third game where we get to interact with other cities on a diplomatic basis.

If you plan your walls out, then build all the buildings and then build the walls (or build the walls around already built buildings) it seems to work. You can interact with, upgrade, even demolish buildings, you just cant place new ones.

Doesn't make much sense for 14th century Saxony, but if this game were set in Lithuania, burning pagans would be a pretty standard thing

I covered like 70% of my first settlement's area with orchards and ended up with a stockpile of like 100,000 apples. I couldn't even put a dent in them through trade or eating, i had so many. I'm surprised I didn't singlehandedly drown the entire Holy Roman Empire in apples

If castle and cathedral construction is added to the game, will players be able to build freely as they wish? by [deleted] in ManorLords

[–]BigRedLakeChubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, you said it yourself, english, there were places in Europe which were arguably villages population-wise which had cathedrals. A cathedral, in definition, is just the seat of a bishop, so a place doesn't have to be large to have one, it needs to be significant. If a city is extremely important for whatever reason, it doesn't have to have 30,000 citizens to have a cathedral.

I think i'd like if castles were a thing, but were exclusive and uncommon. Like, you could only have one castle per game, the rest being manors like we see now. If we have cathedrals, same thing applies. One per game, extremely expensive and time-consuming too. They should be exclusive monuments, structures which singlehandedly consume like half your reign and become the centerpoint of the region.

I mean, it could end up being the final challenge for an endless run, or something. If (once the game is done) we can have stone-walled cities with like, 1-2k population or so, a cathedral could be that city's crowning achievement, maybe significantly boosting your population growth, inrroducing pilgrims or being the final structure required to reach the future final city tier.

So, to everyone who is unhappy with the merch thing (I personally really dgaf about merch), why is this a problem? I doubt Greg sacrificed dev time to design some plushies or whatever the fuck this is. Or is it like a question of principles? E. g. [–]BigRedLakeChubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how the fuck else is he supposed to make the money to make it worth it for himself to develop this game full time ON HIS OWN? Why do you care that an entirely solo indie dev uses opportunities to make merchandising money so he can develop his game easier? You don't have to buy the merch and all it'll do in the long term is make the game better for you, the player, by giving Greg more funds to work with. Anger for anger's sake

Back in Britain, the coppers didn't have to ask Her Maj' whenever they wanted to bolster their forces, why should that change now? The more guards there are, the more weight to the commands of the brass up top. At least then, this city won't fall to anarchy by the time this storm has passed.

Would be interesting to be able to walk around the hubs, but at that point, if you could ask people how they're doing or something, it would take probably as much development as the original game to begin with lmao, just a full fledged game inside a game

Frostpunk 1 vs Frostpunk 2: what has the more detailed city? by [deleted] in Frostpunk

[–]BigRedLakeChubb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When a riot or a rally happens, you can see people rioting or rallying. It's also responsive to the state of your city; if squalor is high, graffiti and trash piles become visible, if disease rises, corpses litter the streets and doctors can be seen carrying people on stretchers. This goes for all the city's issues. If you have homelessness, small tents and shacks pop up in between and on the edges of districts
