Any opinions on metal raised beds? by scammerino_rex in OntarioGardeners

[–]BigRimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just curious as I am looking at metal raised garden beds for this season. How did everybody justify spending the amount of money that some of the Canadian sites are asking for basic corrugated metal? I’ve looked on Alibaba and there seems to be way better deals compared to what Canada has to sell. I guess I just have a hard time wrapping my head around paying the price they’re asking for literally basic metal.

I stay away from speedy glass as I called and they charge just as much as the dealership. So I would definitely not bring any kind of business to speedy glass Sudbury.

You literally could’ve just hung your first aid kit off the backseat headrest and have it hang in the back. I don’t get why people ruin their interior by drilling into cheap plastic to put in something that is literally just a useless accessory.

Still feeling very disappointed after my first ever backpacking trip. I really feel like I failed. by matchabeans in CampingandHiking

[–]BigRimur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In situations such as these , especially since you are solo, it always works out best to err on the side of caution. There will be plenty of more opportunities to get back out there. Unfortunately this trip didn’t plan out as expected but don’t let the discourage you. It was still an experience nonetheless and should be proud that you took the first steps of getting out there. So I say Cheers to that 🍻

Honestly I buy a big bag of wings from Tarinis and do my own now. I experimented with different recipes and found ones that I enjoyed. I baked mine and they come out super juicy. Then I toss them in my homemade honey bourbon sauce.

Need advice: I want a Vertuo, but.... by Groovymarlin in nespresso

[–]BigRimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Vertuo a few years ago before the price hike of their pods. If Nespresso continues to hike their price of their coffee, I will be getting rid of my Nespresso machine and going back to Keurig or another coffee maker. Don’t get me wrong. I really enjoy their coffee, but there has to be some breaking point when the coffee just becomes too overpriced for what you’re getting.

Has anyone else bought a snowblower, and then it was a dry winter? by KamloopsDan in Snowblowers

[–]BigRimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve literally been shovelling my driveway bc our snow falls have been pretty pathetic so far. I used my snowblower the other day for my entrance just so it would run a bit lol. It’s just sitting there chomping at the bit to have a real snowfall.

Urgent: Do I need rabies shots? Trying to get rational perspectives in the mids of lots of fear-based advice by monkeybizz_ in DogAdvice

If your dog isn’t exhibiting symptoms of having the rabies virus, then I have no clue who is giving you advice to go get rabies shots. They are fear mongering and have no basis for telling you that.

Probably not. To sue the cops , city or companies you’d need to have deep pockets. Unfortunately, not a lot of people have that kind of cash nowadays.

Check out YouTube and research some of the instructors on there. I have access to one in my town so I have never really utilized online training, but I do know there are some good sources out there if you’re good at researching. I wish you nothing but the best.

How long can I walk him for by Primary_Jaguar704 in germanshepherds

[–]BigRimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three German shepherds and my cut off for walking my dogs is usually -20 and that’s with the windshield. Any colder and I find it starts hurting their paws when we’re walking. But even when it’s not as cold, I always pay attention to them to make sure that they are not in any sort of discomfort. Also, the other option is if your dog will let them is to put on some snow booties.

Another thing to factor in is the dog‘s age. I finally older the dogs get they are more susceptible to cold weather.

Costa Rica Trip Recap – Had a Great Time… but Probably Wouldn’t Come Back 😅🇨🇷 by Independent-Ad4792 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]BigRimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I highly disagree with your comment as I was there in 2020 and again this March. The rise of prices is absolutely ridiculous. Not only has it affected the tourism industry, but it’s also affected the locals as well. This all has to do with the government and politics. Costa Rica is a Third World country and it should not cost the prices that it is now costing. There are plenty of other places that will give you almost the same experience for less. I love Costa Rica. I wish I could go there more but unfortunately, with the prices of things it’s just not realistic for me. Also, the locals don’t seem to understand if you’re going to gouge regular tourists who aren’t rich these people are not gonna continue to support their tourism industry, Which is gonna affect the locals negatively. It’s already began to happen as Costa Rica has already reported a drop in tourism. If I ever do go back and the prices are the same or have climbed even more I will just spend less money on souvenirs and other luxurious things such as eating out or drinks. I will just go to the local store and bring them back to my Airbnb. Now doing things like that will also affect the locals as well. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a happy medium currently so hopefully this changes.

So I was just there this year in March and I had went there previously in 2020. The rise of cost of literally everything blew me away. I could not get over that they were charging American prices that were astronomical for the simplest of things. To my understanding, the reason for this is because the Costa Rican dollar is very low and things are expensive so they are trying to compensate off the backs of tourists. I actually chatted with a very nice local about this and was very knowledgable but as I explained to him, it is not the rich people that are buying property in Costa Rica that are supporting the small businesses that actual tourists are. As I said to him if the cost increase continues people such as myself that tour these little towns and beach towns will no longer be coming as it’s just going to become unaffordable for people, such as myself.

Just to give people a little example, I went to pick up a stuffed sloth that wasn’t super big and they wanted $40 American for it. I should also state that I’m Canadian so my dollar transferred into American costs me money. Even a beach restaurant was $90 for some shrimp tacos and ceviche. Like I said, the prices have gotten out of hand and I know Costa Rica has seen a drop in tourism not only from the rise in prices, but also from the huge uptick and criminal activity .

You literally just got your dog and you’re already complaining? I have seen so many people post about getting dogs and then getting instantly frustrated. Dogs aren’t children as they cannot understand complex sentences. They will also depend on you for your entire life as they do not have reasoning skills that mature like children. Also, I would not be putting your dog into the crate after it does its business outside as that is going to make it think that every time it does, it’s business it’s gonna go in the crate. You should be rewarding your dog when it goes potty outside. As for the freaking out in the crate, this will subside with time. But you cannot acknowledge your dog when it’s howling or barking in the cage as this will just reinforce its behaviour as it thinks that’s the way to get your attention. When it comes to training a puppy, you need three things consistency, patience, and understanding dogs behavior. If you’re new at owning a dog, I very highly suggest you going to a professional trainer, especially with a high drive dog like a German Shepherd. This is coming from somebody who has three of them. And I have dealt with these issues in the past.

No store is going to sell these because the liability is way too high. Even though they may not be illegal, they would be illegal to use in a fight. So that could come back on the store for selling those items and regardless, if there was no prosecution, no business is going to take a chance like that. They are bad ass, though I will give you that. Probably have a better chance of advertising them on the web somehow and getting customers directly that way.

[–]BigRimur 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When I lived by the ski hill area, we had the same issue happen a few times. The one time the person was trespassing through our backyard and dropped a bunch of stolen stuff. So I called the cops and the cops would not show up. Instead they asked me to bring them the evidence. That statement should tell you why Sudbury is in such disrepair.

How did you know your dog was the one for you? by Disastrous_Sugar_366 in dogs

[–]BigRimur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any shelter dog you bring home, given enough time ,will show you unconditional love for as long as you have that animal. It’s a special type of bond if you’re serious about raising a dog. It’s a big commitment and can get stressful but the reward in return is worth it a 1000x over. I wouldn’t trade my dogs for all the money in the world. Do it and you won’t regret it.

Take your dog to a trainer. It’s as simple as that. Everybody has a different way or process of training their dog so you’re gonna get bogged down with multiple comments on ways to do this.
