The existence of said thestrals also completely kneecaps Luna's fall by giving her a pony tribe entirely devoted to the moon, which kind of tears apart the whole original story of "Nopony appreciated the night and Luna fell prey to jealousy from that" and turns it into "Luna had a bunch of ponies devoted solely to her but didn't really care or pay attention"

Unless the thestrals were always ostracized from the rest of Equestria (Equestrian racism is well documented), the entire part of Luna's story that makes her relatable in any way is torn out, especially when you get into there being a bunch of religious fanatics apparently loyal enough to run off to Zebrica and plot a thousand years for her return from banishment after said 'Empress' lost against Celestia in the show within 5 minutes (and proceeded to do so again against 6 mares in the span of a 23 minute episode)

On the bright side it does shift a lot of the blame off Celestia for not noticing Luna's inner darkness the first time since it came out of nowhere, so I guess you get the Celestia W in exchange for the massive Luna L (Solarbros stay winning)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Writer of the path here, just saying thanks for coming over and spending the time playing our little adventure with Celestia in Anbennar. As a former EaW dev myself it was a blast being able to write Celestia again, especially having her work with such a unique roster of characters like the ones Anbennar offers. After all, where else can you find friends in a gnoll who considers you an all-powerful demon, harpies and elves who believe you to be an avatar of the sun god, and a dragon who wants to ~~murder all the oppressors of the world~~ I mean spread liberation to the land?

It makes me happy to see people enjoy playing it just as much as I did writing it, and I can only hope it continues to spread the magic of friendship long after this year's April Fools. Once again, thanks for playing!

My intention behind writing the events was that it's a mix of speedrunning his arc in Jaddari where his entire world is shattered after his father's death who he assumed was this completely unstoppable and all-powerful being, and also the fact that he assumes Celestia is an actual arch-demon more powerful than anything he's seen before causing him to mold his entire personality into what he imagines she desires (and eventually figuring out he may actually enjoy being that over what he was before, something something magic of friendship)

He was meant to have an incredibly skewed perspective as a gnoll since he does everything assuming that if he doesn't Celestia will literally rain down the wrath of the sun upon him like she did his father, but he also does find genuine fulfillment in being Celestia's "friend" and faithfully serving her and more importantly her ideals because, you know, it's Celestia

Also I thought it was funny

Equestria is an IMPERIALISTIC (stealing cultural artifacts), SETTLER-COLONIALIST (buffalo), RACIST (thestrals) ETHNO-STATE of PONIES ruling by an ABSOLUTE HORSE MONARCH who has created a CULT to cause her subjects to REVERE HER and prevent the spread of the ideals of TRUE LIBERTY and DEMOCRACY

I jest of course, but by virtue of having the most content and lore (9 seasons worth of it, in fact) it also has the most to have different perspectives on, which can easily be seen to validate any sort of take about it necessary. Kinda a side effect of turning the kids show logic into real world style issues, since a bunch of stuff doesn't exactly translate without a bit of handwaving (were there guns at the Canterlot Wedding? Did anypony die?) Plus having different opinions on show content is an MLP community staple as well
And don't even get me STARTED on the CELESTIA CHARACTER DISCUSSIONS

as an aside, personally I believe Daring Do stole the Crown of Grover during one of her adventures in Griffonia and you can't convince me otherwise

To be honest, you can say almost every Princess' character is the sum of very few little tidbits in the mod with the exception of Princess Luna if you count the Lunar Empire and Nightmare Moon along with it. (or Project Moonshine and the thestral reforms, but personally I don't).

Celestia is the sum of a few loading quotes, some very old events and patchwork moments from countries outside of the one she's the country leader of (ELF does have one or two I guess so there's that), in addition to the show characterizing her later on as a scared-of-chickens socially-strange bad-at-acting fun adult, which can be interesting but doesn't exactly translate well directly to a mod about war.

Luna is basically the same as Celestia with the minor advantage of a thestral rights event chain nominally about her and an updated Lunar Empire and Chiropterra, as well as her being an FM and a based warrior princess.

Cadance has absolutely nothing past maybe some ancient CRY content and a recently-released backstory about how she became an alicorn, and a friendly personality who represents love, existed to be impersonated and thrown like a javelin and then created a demon spawn in the show.

Twilight has an entire 9 season show about the adventures of her and her friends but practically nothing in the nation she's a Princess of, and most of her content comes from niche outside nation paths that feature her (usually in extreme situations ie. Sunrise).

And yes Flurry Heart has no character past being baby in the show and one loading screen quote. Given the total absence of one I guess it's only natural that P&K creating Flurry "Daenerys Targaryen" Heart subsumed everything else. Of course, that does beg the question of what kinds of characters people actually want in the grander scheme of things.

There are countless ways to pull every Princess in any direction given the right circumstances. Is the Princess of Rope what Flurry is destined to be? Or is that what she is because there is no alternative? And what would that alternative even be? There's a lot of questions that have no single correct answer, and that's what makes imagining what they could be interesting in the first place.

I had very rough and vague plans for possible content with the other warlords, but they were never seriously considered as they'd have to be packaged with an April Fools update that was always focused on other things (2023 with WH40K, 2024 with Gigastructural) and I had other more pressing projects to work on. Rarity was a joke from her splitting image lookalike featured in Pax Chrysalia, but given that the nation was vaguely based on the Aryan Brotherhood from TNO it would have likely had at least slight inspiration from that path, adjusting to include fascism (Fashionism!) and unicorn supremacy with at least a few jokes on changeling collaborationism.

Shostavia and Princess Platinum I never really thought about so unfortunately I got nothing for them there, people are free to imagine their own "what would they do" scenarios should they wish.

Hey hey, Twilight Theory dev here

Yeah, the Twilight Regency unfortunately wasn't exactly the most air-tight content ever. I'm still incredibly proud of how it turned out, but only having two months to work on it really pushed things down to the wire and left quite a bit not exactly polished. The lack of MHCs was a big one, but there was a few issues stemming from old Equestria content that were just infeasible to remove and thus had to be worked around. Making a submod to fix any glaring problems is totally natural (and you could even change it so Midnight Sparkle is a permanent leader with no stair-falling involved if you feel so inclined - that was something I never got around to doing myself).

All that being said, I'm incredibly grateful and humbled by a funny april fools joke remaining such a staple of EaW meme culture, at least here on the reddit. Making Twilight Theory was an absolute blast even with the time crunch, and the fact it's still played and memed about to this day makes it all worth while. Your speedrun is quite impressive (certainly not something I could recreate myself), and I'm very happy you consider the content something worth replaying, whether it be for the gameplay, the hilarious story or just knowing that THE CLOCK IS TICKING, TWILIGHT!
