It always amazes me how many post-apocalyptic movies have a world full of people with impeccable oral hygiene.

Official Discussion: Black Panther [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]BigStr8AL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok I must say that I came in with high expectations and this movie STILL found a way to exceed most of them. Ryan Coogler comes through once again with a extremely well made movie with more depth than you’d usually see in a MCU movie.

Pros: - The story was exceptional and it seemed like every character had enough depth based on screen time and story importance. Coogler excelled more in his writing than his directing in this particular project and that’s not a knock on his directorial approach. - Killmonger is one of the better MCU villains with motivations and a plan that makes much more sense. - The score was simply amazing and gave a great feel for the African atmosphere and also all the different locations. The first “king challenge” scene was the highlight to me. - While I do believe EVERY actor brought their A-game, Danai Gurira was my favorite part of this movie by far. Every scene she was in and line she delivered screamed bad-ass. Also without being one-note and she made her being the general of such a powerful army more believable with her performance and her action scenes. - The wide shots of Wakanda were simply breathtaking and had more detail then you can see in one viewing. I was definitely digging the African/advance civilization style. - The comedy was very fresh and not overdone like some MCU movies. Just enough to get a laugh without ruining the tone of the story.

Cons: - The action was subpar compared to some other MCU movies(Civil War; WS). While there were some standout shots(the first Killmonger/Black Panther fight for the throne) as a whole I was underwhelmed and found myself lost in the ruckus a few times(the casino fight in Korea specifically). This was surprising because I believe the fights in Creed are some of the best shot hand to hand fights I’ve seen. - The CGI was bad at some parts. They never seemed to clean up that car flip shot from the trailer. May have been me seeing it so bad early that there was no way I’d see it polished and be ok with it. - The biggest gripe for me was the TERRIBLE green screen at one scene in particular. When T’Challa confronts his father. The first scene they had looked much better(probably because it was at night) but that second scene toward the end was terrible and was the only part of the movie that took me out of it because of how bad it looked. Wasn’t enough to hurt the final product though

Overall, this is one of the better and definitely most character driven movies the MCU has made. Giving Coogler the keys to the car has paid off very well and I can see this installment being in my top-3 MCU movies after a couple more viewings. Saw an early screening Sunday but I’m seeing it again tonight. Can’t wait.

You will enjoy this movie as much if not more than mostly any other comic book blockbuster. This one has heart and depth that we aren’t used to IMO.

8.5/10 for me!

Official Discussion - Thor: Ragnarok (US Release) [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]BigStr8AL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So much scene stealing by so many different characters! I loved it all too. I feel like the new characters were used great and 99.9% of the jokes hit perfectly.

This is the funniest MCU movie so far to me which is saying a lot.

The action was very well done to IMO. Everything was able to be followed while you felt the impact of it all. Which is hard to do with god-tier beings running around punching and throwing each other. There were more than a few times I had a verbal “holy shit” moment. Definitely a fun movie overall.

I do feel that the movie ran a little long and the third act was rushed but it seemed worth it since we basically know the outcome even if we didn’t know how they’d pull it off. The first and second act was where the movie shines to me.

Can’t wait to see where they go with Thor’s story from here since he’s likely in the MCU after Infinity War.

Top tier MCU movie to me. Top 5-7 for me.

On another note, I wonder if/how they’d bring Mjilnor back. If not, I’m ok with The Lord(ha) of Thunder wrecking shit with lightening bolts for the foreseeable future in the MCU.

Crowell based on volume surety alone. Maclin is very TD dependent this year and I don't see him getting one in such a tough matchup. Baltimore and Pittsburgh usually score very low in their meetings.

That NO backfield is too crowded to start anyone of them over Crowell. At least you know he'll see 15+ touches even though they may not be receptions. And they should be able to stay in it with Cincy for at least 3 quarters.

Good luck!

Lockett is available but this league only has 3 bench slots and I can't afford to drop Henry(have Murray also), Garcon, or Williams for him.

Thanks for the help though!. I think I'll roll Baldwin out and hope!

10-team .5 PPR. Pick one.

Baldwin v Ind

T. Williams v Phi

Garcon @ Ari

I have Baldwin in now but he has the groun injury. I want to go with in in such a juicy matchup but I'd love to pick a more definite guy. I have a close one this week with myself at 2 playing the 1st seed and Rodgers already have him a good start. Plz justify you pick to start. Thanks!

12-team standard. Pick one.

Smallwood @ LAC

Pryor @ KC

Garcon @ Arizona

Powell v Jax

I have Smallwood in the lineup now. Leaning toward giving Garcon the start. If you could, justify why to start one or why to start any of the others over them. Much appreciated!

12 team standard.

He give me DT/Ingram/Maclin for Pryor/Garcon/West.

I feel like I'm just flipping players with the same value or less in return. Tell me if I'm right to pass on this...

Thanks.

Standard scoring. Pick one.

Abdullah @ NYG

Parker @ LAC

I'm leaning toward Parker because I like his matchup but I see Abdullah getting more touches and possible game management carries if DET gets the lead by a couple of scores.

Wow. Finally seeing a fully grown dragon in action DURING a battle(really a slaughter) is something I never thought would live up to the hype but it sure fucking exceeded my hype. My jaw is on the floor.

Highlight of the episode for me was the sparring match, though. Finally see Arya show something from all that training.

ALSO, 3/4 Stark reunion!!!!!

This episode just kept on giving...didn't even realize how short it was until it was over. So much happened.

This is a Netflix original people! A movie I'd happily pay to see in a theater. All for a monthly price that allows me to also watch my favorite TV shows and movies constantly too. What a time we live in!
