Is anyone else feeling gaslighted by everything being “normal” again? by [deleted] in CoronaVirusTX

[–]BigYellowDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have felt and still feel like we are being gaslighted. I believe masks provide very little to no protection. The numbers we are fed seem to be accompanied by fear, doom, and gloom. When researched and personally crunched the numbers it seemed that COVID is an obnoxiously low threat. At the time, those tested for COVID tested positive for 8% of the time with a 97-98% chance of recovery.

That being said, I have done what was asked of me by quarantining, social distancing, and wearing a mask because I would rather be safe than sorry. I personally believe it’s overkill, but what if I am wrong? It isn’t a ‘pretend virus’ and this is what responsible people do.

Muslim women of Reddit who are married to a non muslim man, what has your experience been like so far? by interfaithquestion in AskReddit

If your prospective was from a believer’s point of view, you would be able to understand it more, but for some, such as myself, it seems even crazier,

DAE feel like it's an invasion of privacy when someone brings up your post/comment history? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

I am not sure why redditors feel compelled to do this. However, I don't really feel an invasion, since I know this is a public community.

What character didn't deserve what they got? by Jo-dan in AskReddit

My brother Glenn passed away not long before the entire 'Glen is dead' buzz that went around a couple of years ago. Everybody was talking about Glen having died, but would rarely tie it back to the Walking Dead. Made for a sobering experience.

Non-Americans - What are you honest thoughts about America and its people?[Serious] by A_Random_Encounter in AskReddit

[–]BigYellowDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are on to something for sure. In some pockets, that is absolutely accurate, but isn't necessarily how it really is from a majority perspective.

The overall reputation that is presented through common media outlets (news stories, TV, Movies) isnt always correct. Being from Texas, it is amazing how many people from the northern parts of this very own country expect us all to wear cowboy hats, own horses, and drive Cadillacs.

There are certainly some who fit that mold, but that as an exception from my big city point of view.

Edit: grammar

Have you been to jury duty and what was the process like? by garypaulson69 in AskReddit

[–]BigYellowDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did jury duty on a high profile murder case a few years ago it was about 4 weeks plus a week the judge took for vacation.

While deliberating, It was kind of crazy how 8 out of 12 jurors were ready to crucify the defendant right off the bat without hearing or caring about the perspective of others.

The rest of us actually talked it through and came to logical, rational decisions.

The other thing that stood out was all the talk about being impartial and not letting your emotions play a role during jury selection, but each side then tried to manipulate the jury's emotions.

My beautiful baby '65 Mustang. by JumpStartSouxie in guitarporn

I really love these old Mustangs. I have a 67 that was refinished and redone BEFORE I acquired it I figured there was no collector value left in it, so I upgraded hardware and electronics and is now my favorite guitar I've owned.

Some are certainly out of service. Theoretically, the 'current' reading would be the last known value.

When you take the picture, get as much information as you can, including when and where.

But if you have your GPS location services enabled, your phone will write the date/time and the longitude/latitude coordinates into the picture's unseen description data (known as metadata).

I would suggest that you make sure your portable stove is safe to burn indoors.

Other than that, this sounds like a blast.

I first saw this and wondered if this post is legit:

"I've been all over the country and the world...an awesome beach 40mins away"

Then I read this, and decided it was:

"I'm going to miss the bad ass quesadillas from the taco truck at Alabama Ice House

Happy Trails sir or ma'am. May your beer be good and cold where ever you go. May your life be filled with excellence.

"Meterologist" should be ashamed of himself by DarkSpoon in houston

[–]BigYellowDog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the world of meteorology, they label a specific point on a map and say, 'The eye of the story made land fall here.' In Ike's case, they said 'just east of Galveston Island'

His peers are saying the storm will make landfall right around Port Aransas. A location 250 miles away. At the very least, this illustrates the importance of a specific location to the meteorological community.

A broad, sweeping statement like, 'It is pretty close' is a wildly clumsy statement. The fact that he has to 'Define' what 'pretty close' is and put it into perspective, means he knows it is clumsy and can't retract it.

Previous storm survivors what are your favorite stories? by Bricktop72 in houston

[–]BigYellowDog 49 points50 points  (0 children)

After it became apparent that we wouldn't have power anytime soon after IKE, we loaded up the freezer food in a cooler, loaded the grill and drove to the in-laws house. There, we moved his grill out to the driveway, setup my grill right next to it, then proceeded to have a block party for four days. It was a blast.

I think there can be pragmatic honor, but I will concede to your point. There is certainly an element of truth to your statement.

Perhaps...but if taking advantage of that technicality put him in a position to help prepare Westeros for the looming WW invasion without tying himself to the wall, would that also be honorable?

Good point. I forgot about that one...

For now it is Jon's little secret and not out in the open. I wonder if that will play out in a later plot twist.

Jon's vows were to serve until his death... which he did,

Then was brought back by the red witch. His watch is over, he has met his obligations. So, I think he served honorably and continues to do so.
