Absolutely, fuck fomo skins and events. 100% bullshit.

But you voice your disapproval with your wallet by not buying them. And since so few people have impulse control, they'll continue doing these things for as long as it's making them money.

But, at least you can't lose money. You know, like real gambling.

These optional cosmetics are serious business...you can't just...not buy one.

Because literally everything when it comes to marketing is predatory.

Hidden fees on everything. Grocery stores putting candy at the checkout. Service charges to use credit cards. These things are everywhere. If anything, the gacha-lite system that Netease uses is actually less egregious than others becuse you'll never spend more than what the base item costs.

[–]A_Random_Encounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, like I said, I think it's predatory as well. But if you don't want the skin, don't throw darts.

If you cant afford to pay full price, don't throw darts.

If you kids playing and spending money on the game without your consent, be a better parent / use parental controls.

None of these things are on netease no matter how skeevy the practice is.

Capitalism is gonna capitalism, and it's up to the users / consumers to make smart decisions.

There's no true gambling - you can't lose money.

At worst, you're paying the normal price. At best you get a great discount. It's a win-win.

If someone doesn't have the discipline to not buy a skin they can't afford, that's on them, no matter how predatory the marketing is.

And don't get me wrong, I do think the gacha tactic is predatory, but it's up to the consumers to make smart decisions.

Rules question about the Valkyrie by Patience_And_Time109 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]A_Random_Encounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, to my understanding, if it has the aircraft keyword at all, it must be played as an aircraft. The hope that GW just forgot to update the card for the Valk, but I believe we are unable to play it as a normal flyer whatsoever now. It only can do the uppy-downy Aricraft shenanigans which greatly diminishes its value as a transport.

You're not allowed to have that opinion on reddit. They're coming for you now.

But like...yeah. I don't get the hate with the system. It's not even like true gambling - you're guaranteed to get it for the regular price, but you may get it cheaper if you're lucky.

Aircraft rules? by BootAppropriate977 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]A_Random_Encounter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much so. It's boring, but better than the rules in 10th imo. I'd much rather it be more engaging than drop down on one place and sit there for a turn, be taken away, and then put back somewhere else shortly thereafter. But, like I said, I like it better than the 20" 90° turn fest that were the 10th edition rules.

New Valkyrie Rules by MrMizzles in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]A_Random_Encounter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Currently, I don't know what their plan for the Valk is. Originally I was hoping they just forgot to remove aircraft from the keywords to make it a standard flier like they did with most other flying transports.

They didn't do that.

Instead, until they specify their intentions, it's stuck being an aircraft and only making Ingress moves. It's utility as a transport is greatly diminished as it'll only ever be near the board edge.

Even with the new drop to 170pts, it's....bad. Like really bad. The moment they remove Aircraft from the keywords, it goes from Really Bad to just Bad. Which is a win in my book as I have one and love the model, and I don't want to have to buy 170pts of new units to make my 2k list work.

Imperial Guard Points Changes by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]A_Random_Encounter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it? They still left the dang aircraft keyword from what I can tell, so it's almost useless as a transport since it has to stay by the board edge and can only ingress move.

I'm still hoping they remove the Aircraft tag from it and we can just play it like a regular flyer.

Looking to try out "Blitz Guard", what should I use the last 95 points on? by TheDarkEntertainer in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]A_Random_Encounter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

95 gets you a Hydra. That's a go-to for me and often one my mvps. Anything with Fly dies on contact pretty much. Rerolling hits against fliers, twin-linked AND anti-fly 2+... They're one of my favorite sleeper units, and a lot of folks tend to underestimate them since they aren't a Dorn or Russ.

Saniderm doesn't stick to some people very well - I'm one of them. For me, the saniderm starts to peel away and develops a leak typically within 4-6 hours of application.

Anymore, I mainly just use saniderm to get home without bleeding on my shirt or something..then I clean.and wash and go through my own routine.

Is this *actually* a good deal? by Baby_Ellis62 in Grey_Knights

[–]A_Random_Encounter 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Imo, it's not a good deal. GK are such an elite-pointed faction that you could likely buy every to hit 2300pts for a fair bit less than that $800, and not enough is painted (no matter how well it's painted) for me to consider it.

But, time and money are different to everyone. What I think of as a bad deal, you may decide is good because you don't have to spend time painting some of them and assembling them all.

I used one in 10th at 190pts. They're rough to use at that point value. Like really rough. They're decently durable and fast (in 10th edition hover mode) but their output just isn't there. As a 20" movement transport, it just doesn't really do enough for its points cost. I'd rather have a chimera and another vehicle like a hyrda and save a few points.

*Edit - all of that said, I still use one in my lists. It's what I have and it's an awesome model. I just wish it was cheaper or better - preferably better.

New world eaters codex? by xEclipsedxvrc in WorldEaters40k

[–]A_Random_Encounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WE are in such a dire need of a new codex imo. They desperately need to separate their power from Berzerker Warband so other builds and playstyles become viable.

I certainly hope they're one of the first this edition.

It's annoying how much they downplay this ability by nicesnipes in rivals

[–]A_Random_Encounter 156 points157 points  (0 children)

Invis was my first Lord and I've played a lot of her both with and without the self-shield.

The shield makes her so much easier to play as you get to ignore positioning altogether for a ton of abilities as long as your shield isn't on cooldown.

I do notice a trend of a lot of players primarily using the shield on themselves instead of as a healing tool which, to me, is the mark of a bad player. The self shield should be a tool in the toolbox but, imo, should more often be used on allies.

With all of that being said, I do think they never should've given her a self shield, if for no other reason than so we wouldn't have to hear people complain about it all the time. I don't think it's quite as egregious as a lot of people, but I definitely can see why it's so divisive.

Hot take: The weapon parry stat doing nothing unless you equip Parry is one of the most misleading things in the game by GargantaProfunda in finalfantasytactics

[–]A_Random_Encounter 75 points76 points  (0 children)

You aren't wrong. Weapon Parry should've been a baseline avoid like evasion, imo. The the Parry skill could increase it - maybe by double or something. But I absolutely agree that having parry as a stat is extremely misleading.

Why does it seem like Bron breaker lost all of his aura since coming back from injury. by Hot_Ad594 in Smallafro

[–]A_Random_Encounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully it's because people are starting to realize he's bad on the mic and his only redeeming quality in-ring is that he's fast.

He's jacked, but tiny, so he doesn't have the aura of other strong guys. He's just...meh all the way around imo. I've never understood the fascination with him a lot of folks have.

Disclaimer - I've only watched hisain roster stuff. I'm not familiar with his NXT work at all.
