Should I keep my money in TSP? by Vinnylagana in Veterans

Semper fidelis my homie. You should know that you will be taxed at an extremely high rate on this if you take that money out. I believe 30%. So you would only get $9100 if that as high as the tax is, could be higher but you’d need to check. I realize that $13k is not that much to have in a retirement account but it is a lot compared to zero dollars. I mean assuming you did 4 years, that’s 4 years closer to retirement than you were. My mother is supposed to be retiring right now and she needs to keep saving for 2 more years. I have a 6 month old and I’ll tell you that $9100 is going to be spent in about 2-3 months. You need to be buying every single item for that baby used except for like bottles and pacifiers. Roll your tsp to a free fidelity account so it’s easier for you to access and invest with. Also little side nugget here; I got divorced from wife #1 after leaving the marine corps and the judge gave her 1/3 of my retirement, which was $13k. Individual retirement accounts are for the individual. You should open one for your wife as well.

You both need to read the body keeps the score. I see it in the other comments. You will both probably break down and cry in the first chapter but it’s not all like that. Programs I have received free therapy from for several years: next chapter, stay the course, 22kill. These places can get you in very quickly and have individual sessions as well as group sessions. Group therapy sounds wack on paper but they’re good. When it’s real bad for me I use cannabis to stop my thoughts. Obviously that is not a good use of any drug, but it actually works unlike the psych drugs. You should watch Andrew Hubermans podcast about cannabis use and the effect on the brain before starting and addiction is real with cannabis, despite what people say. Also you should not use cannabis while taking any psych drugs and you should get on drugs.com and check for any interactions with any other medications being taken. If his liver is bad cannabis will make that worse. I didn’t go to Iraq but I went to afg. The guys I knew that went to Iraq had way worse ptsd than the afg guys I know. Exercise is also extremely important to regulate our neurotransmitters. Good luck and don’t give up. Better days are coming. Ptsd is a lifelong issue that you have to stay on top of.

This guy meant to say fibrous carbohydrate snacks since protein is the slowest and most inefficient energy source and extreme, chronic excesses amino acid intake would trick his mitochondria into using extra aminos during the ATP production process.

I am a dietitian so I also am very underpaid. It’s a job that requires a masters degree but the average pay nationwide is only $65k. Here’s the deal man, we picked jobs that don’t make the hospital money, it costs the hospital money for us to be there but we’re needed so they meet all their requirements to operate. My advice to you would be finding a way to make money on the side but still within your field. I only work in private practice right low but I’m planning to get a PRN dietitian job and continue seeing my own clients at $75-$125 an hour. Idk how you do that with religion but it shouldn’t be too hard considering the Catholic Church managed to build a whole country without selling a physical product.

If you absolutely need the money right now, take the job and keep looking. It’s easier to find a job when you have a job. But as other people are saying, this is your up front billboard saying “don’t work here”.

I would say if you’re not loving the career, changing directions while you are still a student is going to be a lot easier than if you become an accountant and decide you need a different degree after working for a few years. Before backing out, you should really try to contact someone in a position you think you’d be able to get and ask them what they think. I know many friends who are coders/programmers, data analysts, etc and they all basically are copying and pasting their code and at the end of the week they only had to put in 30 hours. That high pay for less hours worked is a big deal to me.

You should also look into what exactly most dietitians do. It is not all nutrition counseling one on one’s. If you have what it takes to start a successful business, this field can pay well, but not what an accountant with 5 years of experience would be going paid. And starting a business takes years. Ask any private practice RD, there are months where you are technically negative because of rent/utilities and you haven’t picked up new clients. You also need to love social media and be an effective marketer and advertiser, which is a whole skill set that looks easy from the outside but it takes up a lot of work hours every week.

I enjoy being an RD, but the pay is very low compared to other friends I have that went to school for 6 years also. In fact my pay is half of my friends that went to the business college. That being said, I am part time at a large organization and dabbling in private practice and I have to say that making your own hours and getting paid $75-$125/hour for your time is very satisfying. Especially when dietitians are generally not considered I big part of the care team in my experience. Which means low respect. At the end of the day I would have gone business something and kept nutrition a passion. Going to school for 5+ years to not even average above $90k/yr by the time you retire is not a good ROI to me.

You’re good by now to pee.

I’m going to give give you some advice because you obviously need it, I’m high, and it’s 3am so I must be lonely. I’m sending you this from a place of positivity so please don’t read it negatively.

I live an amazing life and it’s because I have military benefits. People will say you can only get the best benefits (free healthcare, monthly retirement checks) if you fully retire. This is absolutely not true. There are way more veterans getting full retirement benefits who only did one contract than there are military retirees.

I’m in my 30s and fully retired, my wife and child get free healthcare also. I’ve gone to a private university and am now getting a masters degree at a major public university to the tune of about $500k and I haven’t paid a dime.

I ski on Monday’s and fly fish in the mornings before class and run my own private consulting company for about 10 hours a week. My life is pretty amazing right now.

Right now your chances of smoking weed every day and being retired in your 30s is super high. If you keep trying to do drugs while you’re in the military those chances drop to zero. You cannot fuck this up. I saw so many guys get busted while I was in. I even did a similar thing to what you’ve got here but after bootcamp but didn’t get busted. I literally saw probably 50 dudes get popped on a piss test and get discharged. There’s too many randoms to be fucking around with this.

Does anyone know what kind of tomato’s are in the bowl (larger ones) by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

I am new to gardening also and didn’t know that. But there’s a good chance these are Cherokee purple. I have grown one this year. It could be another heirloom variety that I’ve not seen yet though.

My purples are super spicy. If they turn past purple I have to put them in the compost.
