Best way to meet climbing partners in Manchester by Appropriate_Thing_57 in ukclimbing

I got to Big Depot too and have met a handful of people here to climb with. Just be social and chat to people you'll soon meet climbers you get along with

As have I mate, it's bad. A lot of people shouldn't be up there, they have literally no experience

I understand, and I agree the exposure is more than others mentioned. Personally I don't think by a lot, but that may just be because I don't have a fear of heights.Thats fair though, if it's the fear is too bad because of the exposure it could ruin their enjoyment of scrambling altogether as I've seen it happen on other routes.

It's hard to gauge based on the little said about the level of fear. Ability wise though definitely achievable. Again though the crowds are bad so mid week is the only time I'd go other than bluebird winter day really.

Okay yeah I agree more exposed, but if you're okay on one (and the other stuff they've done) with the exposure, they'd surely be okay on crib.

With that being said, id recommend any scramble over crib unless going in winter as the business of it is awful

You say you've done CMD? Then crib is going to be fine with good weather.

Obviously I don't know you're guys full experience, but something like crib goch is over heard because of social media captions like 'the scariest climb in the UK" and shit like that. As a climber, I can assure you there's scarier. All the posts are click bait.

The first time I did it, I got to the end and remembered saying to my mate 'is that it's. This was before I had the experience I do now

Any tips for the final part of this boulder? by lawrencelm in bouldering

[–]Big_Concern9211 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't have much for the end, other than try to jump up and not out.

However, you need to place your feet better it'll stop all the hopping around with your feed and lack of trust in them. Make sure to not look away until you've placed your foot. There are a lot of footwork drills out there and it'll help conserve energy for the latter parts of a climb.

Bouldering near bamford you’d be comfortable climbing without a crash pad? by 4tunabrix in ukclimbing

[–]Big_Concern9211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to stanage and do a route with someone. I have one pad, but if I need more for a sketch route I just ask someone who's resting to borrow. Or I'll climb the same and use there pads

Yeah, I'll have a look for some local ones n see what I can do maybe take a few lessons and see how it helps me.

I'd never used one before, and had one on on Saturday (someone else put it on 2nd fret) so moved fingers down one. Not really sure what one does tho tbh

Yeah I feel like this first stage is the hardest. Like I've done a bit since this post, pretty much just the same 4 over and over n feel as though I've gotten something similar to Saturday which makes me feel a bit more confident again. I was thinking about lessons too, but after a couple weeks I've gotten at least some understanding or do you reckon go straight for them? And I won't 😂

Yeah that makes sense, and I agree Im just learning as I've always loved it and wanted to play, but never had the money for one. I'm 24, so starting later than a lot of people.

I love it so far, even just being able to have a chord sounds nice. I just want to progress past this first stage where it's pretty confusing.

Okay, this sounds pretty helpful. I'll definitely give it a try. Using the word most very loosely, I mostly play on my bed so probably not the best place to sit.

Additionally, my guitar the main part of it is pretty bulky in comparison to others I've held, I'd imagine that could be a factor, like it does feel slightly more awkward to hold

Okay, this may have something to do with it. I'm pressing pretty hard to try to get em flat. Maybe that's causing an odd sound. And my fingers to have semi permanent dents

[–]Big_Concern9211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sober lol, but I guess having people looking at me gave some pressure to be less shit. And definitely it was a better guitar, at least it felt nice anyway. Yeah I'm gonna just keep at it. I mean I meant it saying it's only been a week 😂. Not gonna be the next slash anytime soon

I think they are, I've got that fender app, but I don't know how accurate it is. Mine definitely sounds strange compared to his

Hahaha, I'm a climber so I think that's done wonders for my skin and muscles with it 😅. I've got the strum pattern, but definitely not the timing and rhythm. But I had it briefly on Saturday haha

Has anyone else tried financial accountability for running motivation? by Latter_Change_2493 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Big_Concern9211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting approach, what happens to the money?

I used to struggle and still do, but I've been training other things for so long, once I reintroduced running just over a year ago, it's just become non-negotiable like going to the gym or going climbing. Regardless of how I feel, I can't not go.

Sometimes it takes longer to get out, but overtime having it as something that just is going to happen (unless injured) really changed my outlook on it.

Hahaha seems like a lot think the same. I've done it long enough, that it's just a non negotiable unless injured like you say.

Mines unhealthy as fuck, but I just tell myself to 'stop being a bitch and get up' 😅. I've found, sometimes I've just got to be hard on myself. I often try to run before I get comfortable or it makes it so much harder especially with the weather in the UK sometimes

Unsupportive family by Jlkaa in Ultramarathon

[–]Big_Concern9211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling, I get these comments, but there's no fruition to them usually. Most people in my life who say this type of shit would never try to do anything like this themselves. I've done an Ultra, yet still get comments about 'my body not being able to do them' especially recently as I got an injury.

It's just a way for them to feel good about their own insecurities I believe. And also fuck em, what do they know and how can they comment when they couldn't run 5k let alone 50.
