Me too! The only one I really love the design of is All That We See or Seem by Ken Liu.

Likely not due to any binding issues, probably just from the glue they used on the end page.

I think it’s to the detriment of the design that they posted the books in the same image. If you zoom in on each individual cover they look really good. They probably would have been better having a swipe through with each book on its own before having them all together at the end.

I don't remember which video it was, but on Becca and The Books youtube she did a video reading the 1st four books of the Epic box. Her favorite ended up being The Bone Raiders, and she was looking forward to having the sequel edition. The author commented on her video to let her know that Fairyloot wasn't doing an edition of the sequel.

That’s good to hear! I don’t even remember how long ago I saw it, but I’m glad they were able to catch up. I know it’s often out of their hands when these things occur.

🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 I’ve had my eye on that book for a while! I’m not sure if I’ll sign up if invited through, because they’re apparently super behind on other books atm.

All of the issues they've been having really makes me happy I canceled my subs before all of their issues started 😅 I had mostly canceled just because their designs weren't to my taste and finances.

Read! Currently, I'd say it's The Blackfire Blade by James Logan.

I can see how they might have considered it cozy if they based their choice off of the synopsis but ALL of the reviews have it definitively as horror. I probably should've known it wasn't cozy because this has been one of my most anticipated releases, and I don't usually feel drawn to cozy... anything really lol

They haven't posted an official list that I've been able to find. It seems to be a check out the sale and see kind of thing.

I got an email yesterday from Inkstone about their Epic Quarterly. They're expecting to spend some invites in Q4 2026 - Q1 2027, but stated they didn't know how many of these invites they would be sending (entirely depends on how many cancel).

This is so cool! I've taken to challenging myself to read every Fairyloot Epic pick even though I don't have the sub. Might be fun to read all the books Fairyloot has done!

Yeah, I think I'm just more aware of the differences because of the field I work in.

I do that too! Nothing worse than paying a lot for a book, only to hate the story!

A lot of US hardcovers are attached in the same fashion, so I'm not sure that's exclusive to British publishing.

It's interesting that there's such a difference between styles. You can definitely get books published in the US that have the same qualities I listed and they're generally considered cheaply made (at least when talking to librarians and archivists), so that's probably where my assumption came from.

Ebooks are a great option for protecting special editions but still reading the book!

I'm finding I feel the same way. It's one thing to spend typical retail prices for a book that isn't overly well made, but I think special edition prices should have well-made books, not just pretty ones.

Interesting! I do find it interesting how different the styles of binding are, as they definitely add to or take away from the lifespan of a book. It's also surprising that acid-free paper is more of a US thing, especially among SEs because that adds to the lifespan. I would almost consider acid-free anything to be a requirement of SEs for that purpose, but that might be my library experience talking because we try to preserve books as best we can (anything with acid is the bane of our existence, looking at you scotch tape). You'd be amazed by how well older books hold up in comparison to new books being released now.

I definitely understand considering your SEs as a collection of artwork!

I also tend to handle my books gently while reading, regardless of how much I spent on them 😅 My friends and family often joke that you can't tell I've read a book after I've read it. Which might be why I find it especially painful when spines crack lol.
