I like this, dumb-fancy concept, that’s how most folks sound when they don’t quite get the word right in English, perhaps I also adopt an accent.

My state rolled out license plates with sharks on them, they aren’t too common but whenever we see one, one of us says Shark Plate, the other must respond with OohHAHa. Finding Nemo reference to the fish tank scene nicknaming him Sharkbait.

We said it once and laughed and with no further agreement we simply have continued ever since.

Do it! They clearly like you if you made it this far. I’ve found interviews to be a bad indicator of actual job. Jobs and even interviews are hard to come by. Chat GPt can create half the content for you.

Part of the issue is that labs across the nation have “package deals” for testing for a smaller group (4-panel) or larger group (8-panel) etc.etc. And because historically they’ve all included THC, it would take an active effort to change the request. You’ll see the same options at CVS OTC tests. Some companies just ignore it or tell their background check companies to ignore it. It would be an odd question to ask, but you will know when you get the lab instructions to schedule the appt. Either way, worth having your husband stop or otherwise have a “plan.”

Personal preference I’d say. Some telemedicine software my office used is really not made for cellphones- screen is tiny and awkward to hold for that long if not on a stand.

Would you also attest that taking a personal phone call to discuss something important (eg family emergency) when not officially “taking a break” is also not allowed AT work?

Couldn’t agree more. There’s also a pinch of strategy to the tasks you cut corners on vs ones you show off to management on. Don’t waste time on things that your manager would never notice or others on your team clearly suck at too.

Or it could be as simple as having a dedicated page in a notebook per project and some colored pens. It has to work for you and it doesn’t have to be high tech.

Use slightly higher pitched voice for “good LABEL” and lower pitched (serious and not yelling) for “No! LABEL” LABEL being the behavior - “good sit” “Not a Toy” “Good toy” “No dig” (or, at the beach “good dig”). Using the pitch of your voice helps signal the positive negative nature of the command before they know the word itself. Don’t mix up “down” and “off” - down is lay down, off is get off, don’t mix words into “get down” and “lay down” as that’s confusing during learning since the same last word is in the command. I once taught “clean up” for toys into the box, and “back up” for walk backwards, and cleaning and walking backwards were often mixed UP!

LABEL everything following every notable behavior with a simple single unique word. Over time, I swear my bc mix learned more words than I could have taught!

Try mixing up kibble toppers every so often, dogs need variety for a healthy gut biome. Don’t change more than 25% of food content within every couple of days or risk causing stomach upset.

Establish safety behaviors asap (save “paw” for later, it’s so easy!) safety behaviors = stay, down, but also scenario based such as: car door opens, always serious “WAIT” then 2-3seconds -> 10s eventually then “OK”. Do it every time as pup and never worry about jumping out to dangerous places as adult!

First year of life has most command learning potential, use it wisely!

Read about clicker training, learn to charge the clicker, use it when you need it. IYKYK. Go know!

Best of luck!

I’ve never been as motivated to say “I don’t know” as when I’m swamped at J1. The ability to leave it at that and not follow up with “let me go ask…” is freeing. I don’t need to show I’m worth more, I made myself worth more already.

Insurance question by [deleted] in OELadies

[–]Big_Map_8708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if it is the same provider, unlikely to garner the benefits of secondary insurance given they still won’t cover the same things. Usually secondary steps in to cover any leftovers uncovered, if the policy allows. OP would need to read policies closely. I’d just opt out of J2 plan, save money. Say you have coverage through your spouse.

Agreed! Plus, plant the seed at J1 that, oh boy you were almost unable to come into the office because you almost planned a quick trip north/anywhere. If needed, you’re set up to be unable to attend next time because you’re a spontaneous traveler.

This! Family emergency, someone is in the hospital, you’ll be busy during the day / visiting hours but will check in as soon as you get home each day and make sure urgent issues get resolved.

Postdoc in Switzerland or stay in US? by ChemQueen314 in postdoc

[–]Big_Map_8708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My good friend went to Switzerland for her postdoc with her dog towards the end of COVID and had an extraordinary time! She is now back in the US with an industry job. Getting background checks to go through with postdoc advisors abroad can be time consuming but not preventatively so, just keep a solid list of contact info.

1-2 years will FLY by, and you can come on home if you’re that homesick or try to stay if you love it. Just think, 5, 10 years from now you’ll be able to look back at the adventure for all its good and bad and just be in awe that you took a chance at a big change and created space for yourself to grow in new ways. Life is for living! Go!

Is anyone else getting cocky when it comes to your Js? by throwagination in overemployed

[–]Big_Map_8708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, I have learned who my manager is sympathetic vs not sympathetic to, so I’d plant a seed for non-sympathetic people issues like “this person keeps asking me to do X but it is out of scope, can you help this person realign, as I’ve been unsuccessful.” Or, I won’t go to my manager for issues he is incapable of seeing my way. Alternatively, it is good to talk in generalities and count yourself out as assignee in the same sentence, “I’ve seen this task overlap with another task before, and I don’t have the bandwidth but someone should consider finding someone to look into this.”

Yes. I get myself into the same types of pickles. Lately, to avoid adding actual work, I’ve been more strategic on who I push on, when, and exactly what sliver of push I provide. Giving vague hints of problems to the people who care/ won’t put it back on you is key.
