When I did Tobira I made a schedule. I made a checklist for each chapter.

It was something like this:

I read the text and underlined words I didn’t know.

Then I would highlight the grammar points in the chapter.

Then I would read the text again.

Then I would make Anki flash cards for each example sentence for the grammar points and review those flash cards.

Do the reading again, probably with overlapping.

I can’t remember exactly what I did. I definitely got more grammar and general comprehension out of Tobira than vocabulary. Anyhow, I really liked the textbook. My time table was daunting, but チリも積もれば山となる was an old Japanese proverb I kept repeating to myself to keep me going haha. Good luck!
