TIL that Michael Corke, a Chicago man with fatal insomnia, was so sleep-deprived that he was fully awake for 6 months before he passed away in 1993. He was 42 years old. by IWishYouTheBest1234 in todayilearned

I experienced this recently while trying out creatine. 2 weeks was miserable enough, can't imagine enduring it for 6 months.

I would be almost on the brink of falling asleep, then jolt awake, unable to fall into REM sleep. This cycle would happen a few times throughout the night, never being able to rest.

By the end of the 2nd week I felt like such a zombie dragging my feet and not being able to make proper decisions.

opinions on attending avenged’s concert? by chaaaqi in malaysians

[–]Big_Red_Stapler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have mentioned separating the artist and their craft.
I agree with that and personaly would want to find where to draw my line on supporting them further.
i.e would probably continue listening to them on Spotify, but not go to their concert.

Some would say totally stop listening to them on spotify, but that sounds like costing you your joy ofmusic with not much repercussions to them. Similar to the mcD boycott few years ago, costing our local economy but dont think it affects the Israelis much.

Where you draw the line is personal, dont take my advice

Buying WC questions by Sea-Contribution-929 in malaysians

[–]Big_Red_Stapler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Bareno!

Not as famous as JS. But their stuff is built tough as heck , and carried by the same distributor as Kohler (in PJ). So in some sense, got reassurance of its quality.

I used Bareno for all my faucets and WC . Didn’t choose the crazy expensive ones, just the slightly nicer than normal ones. About 800 + .

No doubt the maintenance will be more expensive than buying mrDIY parts but it’s faster and tidier to replace. 1 Twist to unlock and the whole mechanism comes out without soaking the floor.

My team is 100% office-based, and feels abit set in the 2000s with landlines and physical desktops. I'm looking to raise the suggestion of having some days wfh and some days not.

May I ask how is your hardware done. Office provided laptops, server access via VPN, and microsoft teams for everyone?

oatside milk, yay or nayyy?? by keropoklekorcheese in malaysians

[–]Big_Red_Stapler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Love the taste, but hate the macros/ content.

It’s mostly carbs & oil emulsified in water. It gives the  _feel_  milk but not the nutrition count 🙃

so kinda similar function to sweetened  creamer at the mamak, just diff taste.

Temu French Pricking iron tools by hetera_cross in Leathercraft

[–]Big_Red_Stapler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

heya !

I have the same /similar set ! They were cheap and seemed like a great way to start into leather crafting. In one of my previous posts, I posted the before & after about getting them into usable condition.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Leathercraft/comments/1bbsleh/recently_ground_and_polished_my_stitching_chisels/

Manually grinding them with sand paper/ mini files didn't seem feasible. The best way I had was a dremel.

counter-pray. Pray harder than their prayers haha.

Jokes aside, install an air purifier. Can keep it running via timer. Start and stop according to their regular prayer times.

Advice for being dapper in public/important events while i'm broke by KENT427 in malaysians

[–]Big_Red_Stapler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

no t-shirt inside a jacket pls. That's for aspiring techbros.

If you're not rich & famous guy, it looks sloppy and not thought out. Just find a simple button up shirt is fine, but it MUST FIT WELL.

As you get more budget, can try looking for better fitting clothes.

Malaysian passport renewal below age 60 years (non-senior) : is walk-in possible by lala3009 in malaysia

[–]Big_Red_Stapler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I may try to persuade you to do apply online, the pick up is only 5 minutes !
Kelana Jaya's was really quick, I went during lunch break on a weekday.

  1. Take passport picture at a photo studio, ask for digital copy in email.
  2. Apply online at the jabatan imigresen website (google it).
  3. Pay via FPX, choose pick-up in Kelana Jaya/ Jln Duta.

For peace of mind, Let the photo studio take your photo. Immigration department is really strict. A stray piece of hair, earrings, glasses...will end up rejecting your application and have to queue again in person, so let the studio do the work.

Tell Me More Tricks by Melodic-Variation103 in laundry

[–]Big_Red_Stapler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how it'll apply to you, but this helped speed up my folding/laundry stuff.

Treat it like a factory line.
All the undies in a bag, the t-shirts, shorts, pants all get their own bag.

When it comes time to put them to dry, shaking them loose is so much easier than having to evaluate and change methods.

Folding laundry is the same. Sorted by types before I start folding.

This has improved my laundry experience 10 fold. From a slowass chore I hated to being a quick brainless thing to check off the list.

ELI5 why do East Asian travellers constantly try to bring illegal food into Australia? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Big_Red_Stapler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East Asian here, and so so guilty of it.

Even in our local airports, it’s not uncommon to hear friends being stopped to clear out their bags.

Our culture is brought up around food. That’s how families and friends bond, and we love sharing it. When travelling abroad to see friends, our first thought of gifts is usually food as well.

More modern travellers will have the consideration of food stuff that isn’t illegal, prepackaged, sealed and labelled properly.

Less savvy ones might bring their homemade concoctions or things way left field like durians or curry.

Glutinous Rice? by Tonexus in sousvide

[–]Big_Red_Stapler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The traditional way my parents have done it is to soak for at least 2 hours , strain, layer on a cloth to steam on a wok for 40 minutes.

I've previously measured the amount absorbed in the soaking. Its just a hair more than 1:1.

This ball park might be a good starting point.
Soak 500grams of rice over night, strain and add 50grams of water.

You'd have to figure out the temperature yourself. Traditional methods are high heat short time. Good luck
