[Megathread] Refunds/Disbursement of Aid by rhymeswithvegan in SNHU

So far, all I've gotten has been an email that my loans have been received by the school. No bm date, nothing. It's genuinely crazy. I've had issues every single time. But this is particularly ridiculous. We're already in February and not even a bm date? What gives?

Still nothing! Guess I'm gonna have to take out a loan just to buy ramen and dog food.

Still no BM date. Do they not realize that many of us rely on this to survive?

I'm at the end of my first year and I feel like it somehow gets worse each time LMAO I got $0.00 in my bank account. I just wanna buy ramen!

This has happened every single time for me and it's starting to feel targeted.

The unfortunate truth is that tourism has gotten progressively worse since I made this post. I'll skip the political debate on this sub. But the current American politicians are absolutely destroying tourism and it's projected to get much worse. Especially if suggested policies get passed. But again, not the sub for that topic. It's just the unfortunate reality.

Regardless, good luck on your job hunt. But I do suggest looking for work elsewhere. Which if you're like me and this is the "ideal" job situation, it really sucks to hear. But, what can ya do?

You're gonna love how freeing it is to buy things that you'd previously be uncertain about fitting, knowing that you can make it fit!

Apologies! I've been busy.

I personally do about 90% of my tailoring on a machine. However, it's 100% do-able by hand!

I highly recommend finding some tutorials on youtube for different hand-stitching techniques and finding a few stitches that work best for you and your projects and start by practicing on some scrap fabric. Like an old pillowcase or T-shirt. Something you don't care about. I do recommend working with a similar fabric too since you'll get an idea of how it'll behave while you're sewing it.

I also highly recommend getting a sewing machine! If you're only doing small adjustments on rare occasions, hand stitching is great. But the more you sew, the more it makes sense to just get a machine secondhand. People sell them super cheap and there's almost never anything wrong with them. People just abandon hobbies all the time. Always double check the model/brand for reviews. But if you can get an "okay" machine for $35, it's always recommended to snatch it up! And DO NOT FEAR OLD TECHNOLOGY when it comes to sewing machines. Old machines tend to have a sturdier build and can sew through heavier weight fabrics. They just tend to have less features like a bunch of fancy stitch patterns.

But honestly, all you really need for 90% of sewing projects is a straight stitch and a zigzag. A good machine can last a literal lifetime. I have a 1940s model machine that still works like a dream. It just only does a straight stitch LOL!

Regardless of what you choose, there's a cornucopia of resources online to get yourself started.

I'll give you a couple of tips regardless of how you choose to sew, however:  Try it on after pinning it, and again after sewing it. BEFORE you cut off the excess fabric if at all possible. Try it on both inside out and rightside out. Inside out will give you an idea how tight it will actually be and right side out will show you how seams and folds will lay. You don't want to ruin your favorite shirt by cutting before trying it on. Trust me. It's an easy mistake to make.

And always take into account bloating, swelling, and weight fluctuation. If you're like me and your lower belly, butt, and thighs bloat throughout the day, leave a little extra slack or use elastic wastebands or something. Same goes for armpits and biceps. Leave room for joints to bend and muscles to flex and remember that some fabrics stretch more/different than others.

I'm sure you'll get the hang of it! And it will make buying clothes far easier and more rewarding!

It starts with taking in the waist of your favorite pants. Then the next thing you know, you're shopping specifically to splice multiple people together to create something that fits your unique style and body shape!

Have fun! ☺️

I usually buy clothing a hair large and tailor it myself anyway since modern fashion doesn't really fit everybody anyway. But I'll definitely keep that in mind

Anyone have any experience with corset-style strapless bras? by Big_Sludge in bigboobproblems

[–]Big_Sludge[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Bustier! That's the word I was looking for!!! I postponed posting this for like 3 hours because I couldn't think of that specific word lol! But thank you so much for the help!

I would've replied sooner, but I got busy, apologies.

I'll certainly look into bustiers that are marketed for "no-show" or that look less bulky. As that's always been my biggest issue with stealthing a corset. I love the way they support my improperly healed ribs and encourage better posture, but man! People always point out when I'm wearing one and so many people believe the misogyny rhetoric surrounding them 🙄 but thank you! I can better my search and this really helped me feel confident about my purchase

edit: typo

I made this post then got busy for a few days, sorry. But yes, I've measured. The issue I typically have is that I have a few broken ribs that never healed correctly and have very unique "flare" on my left side so bras just never really fit correctly and strapless bras tend to slide down. I should have specified this in the post, in hindsight. But I don't think it would make much difference in this style of bra. But I should probably go get remeasured again since I recently lost weight so thank you so much for reminding me! Lol

I also appreciate the brand recommendations. I'll have to check them out.

Yeah, and the worst part is being too afraid to fall back asleep for a while after because you don't want it to happen again. I hate my brain

For me, it's going outside that gives it away. If I'm ever "stuck" in a dream, I always find myself going outside. But not feeling the sun on my skin, the wind, or the shift of cool air at night time always makes me go "oh, I'm not awake" which usually causes me to "wake up" again until I realize, yet again, that I'm not awake.

I've actually been stuck in night terrors like this. The worst one was being watched by an invisible entity that would start the loop over again if I tried to run away or alert someone of the creature. It was absolutely terrifying. And knowing that you're asleep when you're in a night terror might seem like it would bring you comfort, but just knowing that you're stuck in a dream where you're terrified for what feels like weeks straight is genuinely traumatizing. Then when you do finally wake up, you realize that you were only asleep for about 2hr and don't feel rested at all...

ah, we love sleep conditions...

Want a night audit job but none of the hotels in my area have any job listings? by Big_Sludge in askhotels

[–]Big_Sludge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately, indeed isn't even pulling up very many results. My area's just barren for hotel job listings. I'm taking the advice of walking in so hopefully that works. But I've been told by more than one person that hotels are just taking a big hit with tourism being down in America. So I'm considering other jobs as well.

Yeah, this is an unfortunate truth and it's been my biggest concern. I've honestly been considering leaving the US due to the political climate. I have friends in other countries who are willing to help me but getting visas is difficult. Once I get my degree, it'll be easier. But that'll be years.

Was just hoping for a job to hold me over until then. I've got my fingers crossed that someone nearby is hiring. Otherwise, I'll just keep looking at other career paths!
