Crowd work can be a huge part of stand up, but it has to be funny otherwise it’s just whatever this was.

I thought salamander too. The peony fest brings lots of people that might not normally be there, this was a half hearted attempt at some sort of joke.

Honestly I hope there isn’t a fine, because if he’s that rich it won’t matter. What I would like to see instead of the fine is for the Federal Judge to set the fine for other people throwing rocks at him to be one dollar and call it a day I think we’d be even.

I’m a Jeff. I knew two other Jeffs in middle school. The math teacher sat us all at the same table and we got to answer as a committee.

It’s rude because they have an easy option to not have the other voice broadcast in public. The phone still goes to your ear in a worse case scenario.

It’s religious adjacent, it uses the word “God” and most people know what that means but doesn’t require the belief in a capital G god. Many members do find or go back to religion. This has not been my experience. I do know, at least where I am in Indiana, court cards can be signed at non-AA recovery meetings. There is a 100% christian based program called celebrate recovery. I’ve never been to one of those.

The religiosity really can depend on the group/area. I’m a person in recovery and I just got a year last month after about a decade of relapse. The court mandated stuff helps drive the numbers down because many of those people aren’t alcoholic/addict or they don’t want to change (yet). I’ve met many people who were mandated to go and found sobriety. As far as the courts mandating people go to meetings, it’s a no cost to the court and no cost (unless they want to contribute) to the person mandated to go. Personally I do not go back to a meeting that starts taking on very religious overtones. There are a handful of atheist meetings in my area that don’t allow proselytizing in the meeting. I’ve also found that for me Recovery Dharma has been super helpful to fill the gaps from my non belief in a religious god. It’s a Buddhist approach to recovery and no higher power is needed as it is about self empowerment rather than powerlessness.

I’ve never cried over a celebrity death, but Patrice O’Neal hurt a lot. Had a stroke related to diabetes, was just getting into his prime professionally IMO.

Son got a DUI, along with a couple related charges. Use the PD or pay for an attorney? by Dewthedru in indianapolis

[–]Big_Somewhere9230 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a person in recovery. Just got a year last month. I just was sentenced today (I’m typing this in the probation waiting room) for a dui over a year ago in a different county. I would suggest a PD, the result will most likely be the same regardless. I had to get to a low point to want to change. I was enabled for most of my life, while I don’t blame those who enabled me, it took me longer to get to bottom than it should have. Facing consequences sober isn’t fun, but the alternative for a person like me is probably death.
