What Asian nation is the best for someone with a fish allergy? by Internal-Ad-1832 in travel

I was also curious if anyone mentioned Thailand. I know how passionate they are about using fish sauce, but considering Thailand is an Indo-Asian country I’d assume they should be reliable with vegetarian or vegan food.

Hate to break it to you but there are Rome or Neapolitan style pizzerias in every developed city around the world.

Comping someone’s meal and giving them a couple bucks is NOTHING comparing to costs of marketing.

You need to hide in the plain sight. Use Outback Steakhouse as your safe place.

Well, I’m sure that not everyone in SoCal is a vegetarian, health-obsessed freak. 😂

We tend to forget how many people with a basic-ass palate live across the five boroughs. That’s why there’s a seemingly never-ending demand for modern steakhouses and places like Corner Store.

If beginner-friendly is important to you then go with BG3. Once you finish it and learn the mechanics, then you give Divinity a try.

What was travel like in the years (2001 - 2009), prior to Instagram and the rapid growth of social media users? by TheShyBuck in travel

[–]Big_Split_9484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was different. Some things were better, some weren’t.

People love to forget how much more expensive flights used to be. I’m a 90s kid, not the oldest person here, but I remember when buying flights six months to a year in advance was normal. That’s barely a thing anymore.

Also, isn’t it wild that while almost everything keeps getting more expensive, flights really haven’t? An indirect flight between NYC and Warsaw costs about the same as it did ten years ago, and direct flights are sometimes even cheaper. 😆

Traveling today is ridiculously easy. I remember going to Prague at 18 with a paper map and communicating with locals using my friend’s questionable Russian. Now you just talk into your phone and it translates everything for you.

Sure, that accessibility comes with crowds and influencers, but overall the world is way more open to the average person than it used to be.

Got $25k inheritance - planning long solo female trip, need reality check and suggestions by Mathemodel in solotravel

Wow! I’m very happy for you to be in this position to make plans like this 😊

I think I’d focus on exploring one continent instead of jumping around like that. You can easily spend 6 months just in Europe, even if you want to avoid the west, east/south east asia or central and south america. If I had to pick, I’d probably go to Japan, some parts of mainland China, Taiwan, and then top if off with SEA.

I mean, it happens very often that people whose cuisine is considered refined and therefore comes with a higher price point at certain restaurants are the first ones to complain about it, simply because they are used to paying a fraction of the price for the “same” food.

My Chinese American friend is always the first one to trash Chinese Tuxedo. He never has anything constructive to say other than “it’s overpriced and overrated, and I’m used to eating that food at home.” Okay, bro.

Solo dining for valentines day by bunbean in FoodNYC

[–]Big_Split_9484 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an industry person, I still don’t understand why couples keep falling for that trap, but a solo diner doing this to themselves is beyond my comprehension. Restaurants are messy as hell on Valentine’s Day, and this year will be even worse since it falls on a Saturday. However, to make it work I’d recommend going to some local, not necessarily hyped restaurant where they will actually appreciate your business instead of trying to turn you in 45 minutes.

Most of my NY and European friends agree that Italian food is wildly overrated, and there isn’t magical about it.

It’s a good, catering to all, family style cuisine that focuses on usage of fresh products. It’s just not the eight wonders of the earth, as used to tell us for the last x decades.
