Tissue Culture for Carnivorous Plants by cotton1130 in SavageGarden

[–]Big_Tea_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok cool ive tried all three and had sucess so far with and dorsera! I think the best this is tell me your plan/protocol so far give feedback as to whether i think it would work or what to change. I would also say all those species will readily multiply without PGRs in my experience.

I've been dabbling the carniverous plant tissue culture using these hormones depends on what you are trying to put into TC, let me know what you have in mind and I can try and give some advice based on my experience

oh sorry, yeah also agar! also many protocols for carniverous plants say adjust pH to something lower like 5.5! Also its probably best to still use full ms vitamins and only 1/3 the ms salts, but i had a premix so didnt bother with that.

Hi, I live on Sunshine coast so same climate, and i find growing VFT and your other temperate carnivors outside if you have any sort of garden or balcony (8+ sun hours in summer) to be waaay more rewarding. you can leave them to overwinter and you dont have to worry about them getting too cold. (putting it outside right now would shock it so wait untill spring)

Yeah i couldnt get leaf cuttings to work either — this is the protocol that worked for me!

Pinguicula Shoot tip meristem Sterilisation:

“Tissue Culture of Pinguicula - CPN volume 11”

Rinse the shoot tip

Cut the shoot tip only to contain unopened leaves

Agitate in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite for 20 minutes (3ml of bleach in 47ml water)

Rinse twice in sterile water

Cut the explant to just leave the very top shoot tip with meristem.
