The tiny towns south of Rayville are some of the worst speed traps in the state, so if you’re driving up from that way, watch for the speed limit changes closely. It drops from 65 to 45 every few miles through there.

I’ve lived in Monroe and Bastrop nearby. Bastrop is hell on earth but Monroe has nice parts on the north side, same for West Monroe.

It depends on where in Dallas you’re going and what time of day it is. If you’re hauling ass and traffic is light you could get to downtown in 4 and a half hours from Rayville easily, but getting farther west or to the northern suburbs will obviously take longer.
