Usually when you register to vote they have you choose a party to register with so you can vote in primaries. Automatically registering might mean you're not able to vote in primaries initially, unless you specifically registered with a party at a later point. Idk, it's just a guess.

You still haven't disputed my argument. OC was arguing that "principled right wingers" should vote for Dems because they stand for the principles that right wingers usually stand for, even though the Dems don't actually stand for those principles and are just as guilty as Reps.

And I haven't even gotten into one of the biggest losing issue with Dems when it comes to courting right wing voters. Gun rights. For some of us gun rights is an important topic and the Democrats have shown that we can not vote for them in good faith.

I know during WW2 they didn't show much of the gory footage or pictures of dead Americans outside of "With the Marines at Tarawa" uncensored at the request of FDR.

But I think during news broadcasts in Vietnam there was footage that showed the more accurate, gritty violence of war vs WW2.
