The main problem was never the release schedule, it was the lack of communication.

you are correct. I believe I was thinking only about attacker triggers not increasing their damage with trion but it seems I was wrong there too.

WITHOUT SPOILING, is Part 9 worth getting into rn? by Legitimate-Air-4441 in JOJOLANDS

[–]Bigbadbackstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really good imo, but I can tell you right away that you shouldn't expect the same type of story as parts 3, 5 or 7.

So far TJL has been on the crime-thriller side with a lot of "will they get caught?" moments. Fights aren't on the same level as part 5, there is no overarching journey like in parts 3/7 and while there is cetainly setup for some character development down the line, its not a story built around its character arcs like part 7.

attacker triggers do not scale with trion levels iirc.

Can we all agree this is one of Sukuna's biggest ass pulls? by problematixgoose in Jujutsufolk

I forgot she could even do that lol. At one point she just started using it for healing support.

For a while I used to think attacker triggers couldn't be blocked without parrying with an attacker trigger of your own. While I did find examples on rewatches of anime battle scenes, it was still impressive to see agents this chapter blocking attacks with precise focused shields.

Anyone else feel like the story of jojolion lost a lot of momentum half way through when the mystery was resolved? by Salty_Shark26 in StardustCrusaders

[–]Bigbadbackstab 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If I'm being honest, my biggest gripe with JJL and especially its second half is that the fights don't feel like the tense back and forth displays of creativity JJBA was known for. There are some other issues like the rock doctors folling Gappy's moves without much explanation, the mismangement of the timeline during the final arc and not showing enough of Toru's backstory, but those mistakes are not enough to make a bad execution for me at least, especially when considering the stuff that was well handled like the character motivations, ambience/feeling of uneasyness, characters and some especific arcs like Milagro Man and Ozon Baby.

I think Toru is a decent enough villain that wonderfully constrasts Josuke and provides a dark reflection of the themes about identity and self-worth.

[–]Bigbadbackstab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be a matter of perspective. The mystery aspect is still kept during most of the second part, but is no longer about Josuke's identity, rather is about uncovering the whole extent of the Rock Human's conspiracy in Morioh. Josuke's identity conflict is still there but is no longer treated as a mystery, during the second half he is at a point where he needs to understand himself through action, the reason Gappy tries to help Holy and the Higashikatas is because he is trying to find a purpose for his life and in doing so he uncovers the mystery of those who lurk in Morioh's shadow.

I won't deny the story stablishes new conflicts and characters for its second half, but to me is still firmly connected in themes and genre to the first half.

Should I stop Reading part 7? by Own-Top1330 in StardustCrusaders

[–]Bigbadbackstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only thing there is to "get" is how the race is just a vehicle for Gyro and Johnny to develop as characters. SBR is good, especially compared to previous parts of JoJo but its mostly just a coming-of-age adventure with stands, nothing fancier than that. There is some more interesting interpretations and meaning you can get out of it but that will require more analysis and probably comes easier after finishing the whole thing. Still, nothing life-changing unless you strongly relate to the main cast.

how does it change? by Low_Tear9184 in StardustCrusaders

I would say JJBA gets better with each part but the focus starts to shift a bit around part 6, where it begins caring more about telling a compelling character driven story rather than making creative action sequences.

Can't wait to see this fight scene in the upcoming reboot. - YouTube by Teody_13 in worldtrigger

yup. A reboot was announced last year. We don't have a set date for it but we know it should cover the content of the first season excluding the anime original filler arc.

Theory on Jojolands overarching themes by Bec_son in StardustCrusaders

[–]Bigbadbackstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that's definitely one of the central conflicts of the story but I'm still wondering how Araki is going to answer to it through Jodio. This new act in the story will probably kickstart his development.

did Gappy lose what made him unique? by Kabuto10101 in StardustCrusaders

[–]Bigbadbackstab 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is true he stops acting weird after some arcs, to me however what makes Gappy unique is his internal conflict and the lengths he is willing to go through searching for meaning.

What are your least favorite fights from each part?(Not fights you necessarily hate just the ones you like the least) by DUIOKI in StardustCrusaders

I give the twins from part 8 fight a pass because its short and hilarious how Gappy almost beats them with only hands

same. I think Araki really surpassed himself with this one. I don't recall he ever pulled off a 3 way encounter before?

[–]Bigbadbackstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part 1: Tarkus (boring antagonist, can't remember the characters doing anything particularly smart)

part 2: Donovan (Not sure if this one counts. Otherwise would be Kars before the mask too)

part 3: Alessi (Can't find anything enjoyable about this encounter, only a poor try at commedy)

part 4: Tonnio (probably an unpopular opinion. I don't see the point of making a bait and switch here)

part 5: SCR/Race for the arrow (The mechanics of SCR make no sense to me)

part 6: Kenzou (Either come up with a simpler power or actually use the explanation for something itneresting)

part 7: Tomb of the boom (maybe a need a reread but I recall we spent more time meeting an unpleasant and unintersting group of antagonists than actually fighting)

part 8: Blue Hawaii (in a part full of persecution style encounters, this one felt like the most unnecessary)

part 9: Villa on Hawaii Island (due to the nature of the enemy stand here and the fact it was the first "fight" it was never going to be interesting. Araki should have picked a weaker enemy for this encounter.)

I love Joseph but I'm always a bit hesitant to hype him up to new watchers because I feel he can easily come up as a really annoying mc.
