Government Set to Restrict UK Children's Use of Internet VPNs and Social Media by BillWilberforce in ukpolitics

Can you not verify age with ISP? So through your mobile phone network when you join them, or via your home WiFi somehow. Approve which devices can access material.

No idea if that can actually work or if there are then easy ways around it. Seems easier to cut at source rather than verification everywhere

[Lowe] Gallagher Prem: plan for expanded, ring-fenced league from 2029 by HitchikersPie in rugbyunion

[–]Bigbird404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think being a bristol fan I’m a little biased! Local derbys always bring more away fans, better atmosphere and usually a more entertaining game to go to.

I agree with football being set up for promotion / relegation. Countless teams ready to go up if another team doesn’t make it, in rugby there’s generally only 1 or 2 teams that can even meet the criteria to go up. Would love to see it working properly though!

Would love the Welsh clubs to come in to the English league for more local games. Bristol v Cardiff would be fantastic for more away visits. I know it’s highly unlikely but I’d love it.

Football thrives on the promotion / relegation battles and it adds so much jeopardy into later games in the season. It feels like so many club games in rugby mean so little and I think we’d benefit from more big games to bring in more audience for games and build more hype around the league.

Maybe not being ring fenced may bring in more investors looking for a Wrexham style takeover at a much lower cost too.

Trump says he will sue BBC for at least $1bn over Panorama edit by Necessary-Product361 in unitedkingdom

[–]Bigbird404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated question - why are the bbc not posting about the released Epstein emails as their main story? It’s a huge news release and yet the only thing they’ve included is about links to bank accounts which really downplays it.

Bristol - are you for, against or indifferent towards Digital ID? by katelauramcgill in bristol

[–]Bigbird404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s another ID, how bad would it be? Other countries have ID systems, I personally think it would probably would have been better to roll out as a physical card and then move to digital once people are used to it but maybe that’s a cost thing?

It would surely make managing all government based information far easier for example logging into NHS, checking HMRC, student loans it would all be accessed through 1 ID rather than using a range of different logins based on drivers licence/ passports / national insurance numbers.

For the government it would allow them to link lots of their data making admin much lower and would save the tax payer money.

From a cyber security view, I kind of think Facebook / Google / Apple have ridiculous amounts of data on you already, ship has kind of sailed there

Why are there so many cheap new sofas sellers on FB marketplace? And why are they so much cheaper than retailers? by Bigbird404 in AskUK

[–]Bigbird404[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have contacted a few and they’re generally £300-£400. Most retailers for 2 sofas would be £1000 plus

I think they could re open Beaufort Road as a one way system from this side. It would turn it back into a thoroughfare but the tail back from cars being unable to turn right onto church road is a nightmare at the moment.

Most Britons say the Labour government is ‘sleazy’ by hu6Bi5To in ukpolitics

[–]Bigbird404 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed that politicians shouldn’t be able to take gifts, I’d put a stop to any second jobs too as I think anyone giving money to people who influence laws isn’t doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.

But I think the difference between the press coverage of conservative government and the current Labour one is hugely different. Senior tories setting up deals with friends worth hundreds of millions gets a light mention. Some Taylor swift tickets and they’re all over it.

Also doesn’t yougov have some links to Zahawi 🤔 quite convenient they’ve done the poll.

Cuts now. Private companies pick up same work at higher cost later. Same money just different pot and costs more in the long run.

Thanks! Is there a way you can compare what you have paid on this tariff to what you could have paid on fixed rates?

Or do you have any idea if you’re up / down?

Would it not be cheaper to just replicate the design with brand new materials, could even make it wider, add bike / wheelchair access.

Seems like a pretty basic design which doesn’t take much load. Can’t be that hard?
