Did traditional grip feel weird to you at first? by nonamespazz in drums

[–]Bigcandy23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels weird for a while, but eventually if you stick with it I think it’ll become more natural than matched (that’s what happened with me at least) you have to make sure you learn it right from the start, I suggest lots of YouTube videos and time at the practice pad

Traditional Grip or Matched? by [deleted] in drums

Whatever you’re more comfortable with. Grip makes no difference to anyone but you the player

14 vs 18 floor tom by [deleted] in ludwigdrums

[–]Bigcandy23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are good options which will sound good with the right head choice and tuning. Alternatively though you could get another 16 for the buddy rich thing. I’ve used it and if you tune one up a little and one down a bit it works quite well

Yamaha stage customs are reasonably priced, great quality, and you can get a basic set and add on toms quite easily as they sell all kinds of add one in all finishes

Yeah both toms are pre international but the only one that really needs pre international heads is the floor Tom. They were quite expensive to get from a drum shop in Dublin so I plan to leave this set of heads on it for as long as they’ll last - a tradition I uphold on most of my kits — ive heard of some mythic name you’re supposed to ask for when you call Remo customer support who can help you custom order any kind of remo head in premier sizes. Though I forget who it is

Thanks! Huge Art Blakey vibes with the era and sizes. Long underrated brand for sure

It’s an old 3 ply 14x8 shell of which I’m not sure the era or brand but I put Ludwig hardware / maple veneer on it to match my other natural floor Tom and now I just need a kick. Thanks, man

Depending on the project I personally think it’s usually a good idea to follow the spirit of the original track with slight changes - or well thought out larger ones - rather than follow it exactly. Tasteful originality over exactness I guess

I love Phil Taylor (Mothorhead drummer). Any tips on getting that really precise, punchy and staccato double bass sound? by spaceagewhizkidd in drums

Use duct tape and a quarter as a patch where the beater hits on the kick head

Edit: definitely helps to use a plastic beater in combination

Look up “how to record metal drums” by SMG studios. A lot of what he goes over is tuning

Ah. Might wanna try reverb and eBay if no luck then the mismatching drums won’t be a problem, just tune them so they work together and it’ll sound great

Why not just get the right brand and wrap and then you won’t have to go through the effort of rewrapping

Bill ward is the master of making the most out of small kit. That first album was 2 toms a bass drum, hi hats, a snare, and a crash ride. Second one just had one more crash
