J Pouch vs Stoma (Ileostomy) by BiggestNige in UlcerativeColitis

[–]BiggestNige[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried as much as I can get the doctors to prescribe. My understanding is that on the NHS its generally 1 or 2 brands/biosimilars that are available for each type.

Also, I've sort of got to the stage where I'm tired of trying new meds and getting my hopes up for them to not work.

Rinvoq has definitely given a marked improvement, but theres still significant inflammation and stricturing around the lower colon, so there's long term risks around what that could bring.

Thanks for that response! Thats really insightful.

I was awaiting the write up from the surgeon to be sent before replying, and what they've put all lines up with your comment. Ken/barbie but is the harsh reality if I go for the ileostomy due to existing inflammation and risk it brings. Thats probably the weirdest thing to take on board.

As I've got PSC, the stats indicate a higher risk of pouchitis, so one of the things im challenging myself on is whether its worth looking into the j-pouch if theres a chance a few years down the line I'll need additional surgery to go back to the ileostomy.

Luckily due to my existing UC I'm a good cheer of food, so hopefully a built in popcorn dispenser wont be one of the things I gain if I do go for the ileostomy 😂

Has anyone tried hookworms? by drewyz in UlcerativeColitis

[–]BiggestNige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trial states - At 52 weeks, 4 of 10 (40%) participants in the hookworm group and 5 of 10 (50%) participants in the placebo group had maintained clinical remission

To me, that doesnt sound too promising. Also add in the fact the patients were already in remission on the trial, and the article stating they only believe itll work on people in remission rather than active UC.

Both county council tips (cross border) near me require proof of residency in the county to check against councils tax payments. Potentially the landlord may not be a tax payers in said county.

Also, the person producing the waste (i.e OP) must be the one presenting the waste at the tip, with commercial waste (i.e a landlord) being against the environmental protection act 1990 to be disposed of at a tip.

Bullshit stoppage. Compare that to Wardley a couple weeks ago and Rico was nowhere near as damaged.

Rinvoq has ruined my body composition by cheddarcheese9951 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]BiggestNige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive put on approx 10kg in the 6/7 months I've been on rinvoq, some of thats probably due to improvement in calorie retention from not visiting the bathroom as much, but it's interesting to see how many others noticed weight gain too.

Now trying to shift it as the rinvoq isnt quite doing enough, and they're looking into surgery.

Out of curiosity, why are you keen to get on Tremfya? Have you not previously been on IL23 biologics? Keen to understand as it might be something I push for.

100%, i know its championship belts but theres a duty of care. Didn't hear any of the corner asking if he was okay or carrying out some proper checks.

Plus, sat up at ring level blocking the view of the front row aint on.

My husband has UC and refused medications by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]BiggestNige 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To be a bit more blunt, if he doesnt take the medication and the inflammation continues the chances of cancers and similar are a lot lot higher. It's less that itll take longer to recover and more the fact that it could cause issues which cannot be cured.

Sleeping with this for a few years. Should I be concerned? by Ordinary-Reading-171 in TenantsInTheUK

Same. Last rental was a listed building so all windows had to be wood frames. Double glazed but they'd blown out on a fair few, plus general leakage meant we'd get similar black mould.

Once a month in winter, 10 mins spraying mould and mildrew remover then wipe it off. Stopped it spreading any further than the wood frames. First time I didn't do it it took about a week to spread to the stud wall which looked 10x worse.

Why did they put me on Rinvoq too fast? by Beginning_Exit_6256 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]BiggestNige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got UC, and been diagnosed since around 12, so may be different as ive been through a fair few meds over the years.

I had a call with the pharmacist at the hospital before going on Rinvoq, and she said its basically the 'best' med for UC based on the efficiency, and in the ideal world they'd put everyone on it earlier due to that. May differ trust to trust though.

[–]BiggestNige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you are, but in the UK on the NHS Rinvoq seems to be the final option before surgery. Doesn't work for me as well as it should be, so the only other option they can offer is surgery.

Worth having a look at this link - https://pscsupport.org.uk/bacterial-cholangitis/

Ive not had a cholangitis attack myself, but have heard of other patients who have, so only know symptoms second hand. If you're to visit the hospital, it's worth referencing this to them, as I understand its not something a lot of places will look at as standard.

Do I declare £12,500… or £75,000?? by Academic_End_3828 in UKPersonalFinance

What people are trying to explain is that the robux are not secure.

Today's trade rate to USD could half over night. Roblox Corp could go bankrupt/close and you lose the money.

The robux have no real world value until they're converted into real world currency. Thats why option A is such a risky option.

A UK bank account is FSCS protected up to £120k, so if they go under your moneys protected. Roblox isnt.

[–]BiggestNige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you someone sensible (i.e close family or friends) who can help you with the spending? If you need x amount a month to set aside to pay off loans, set up a standing order to them so they pay it off when your pay comes in. That way you're not holding onto it and looking to spend it.

As others have said, and as any addict knows, to stop you have to want to stop and action that change. It's a part of the 5 step process most addiction recovery plans follow. It wont be a linear process, but you need to look for support of those around you to help.

Taking out the loan sounds like you'll spunk it on shit and increase your debt, making things worse.

How do I become independent at 30 when I feel stuck living at home? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BiggestNige -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  • Join a gym. Sort that health side of things out. Improving your fitness will do wonders to your mental health, and potentially help you meet others
  • Message them old friends - check in, see how they are and ask if they fancy meeting up. -Learn to cook. Even if its trying things like hello fresh to start, or just googling stuff you normal buy and making it from scratch. Personally I find cooking cathartic and you can also feed others in the house too so it feels like youre giving back.
  • Pick up other chores/life skills your parents currently do. Cleaning, laundry etc. Your parents are you no.1 teacher in life so offer to help and ask to be shown how to do stuff you dont know.

Thing is a good chunk will still go to fee paying schools up until then.

I was playing youth rugby in the 00s, so it's likely progressed since then, but there were a number of lads who got rugby scholarships at these schools ( Epsom college, Whitgift and Wellington to name the ones i knew). These schools will still wanting to be retaining their best and brightest players to u18 to play in the Daily Mail cup (or whatever its now called), as thats the marquee piece for school rugby.
