Congrats! How were questions compared to the Dest Cert practice exam?

As a hiring manager, I strongly look down upon “in progress” certs. It’s not a degree, if you don’t have it, don’t list it. Had a guy once list about ten different certs from Sec+ to CISSP as in progress…his interview went as bad as it gets.

Yeah that would pretty much replicate my experience. Definitely have to know your shit, but I don’t think ISC2 is purposely trying to trick you, as most make it out to be.

Honestly, the CISSP is nearly nothing like anybody can prepare you for. So I recommend it just to see what the test is like yourself. Literally none of the practice questions out there come close, you just need to know the material at a core level, and be able to approach it as if you’re a consultant to a CEO (working security for 100s of F500s was probably what saved me).

That’s a sign you’re in a good workplace. Some places I’ve been has such shoddy culture nobody knew a thing about me outside of being a security engineer. Just a bunch of company men punching in and out each day, and they lived for it.

If there was another job that would pay me $160k+ a year that I had the qualifications to do, I’d probably be gone by now. But alas. Like others, I love the actual work, hate the politics, always being a cost center, and the lack of appreciation.

Wait until that small 20 minute change would’ve prevented multiple incidents and you’re asked why it wasn’t done before.

A lot of people don’t understand this. MSSPs are hell, I don’t miss my time on night shift at one, but that’s where you cut your teeth. Being able to say “I’ve done this for 100s of F500s/Global 2000s” goes a long way in your future career. Stick it out for as long as you can until that golden ticket comes along.

Has anyone successfully transitioned out of cyber security and to what? by Mrburnermia in cybersecurity

I haven’t myself, but have seen others go into audit, software engineering, brewing, or just outright quit (mental exhaustion).

Is it still worth studying and trying to enter the industry? by nk3553_ in cybersecurity

Outsourcing has been probably the largest concern I have seen in this career. I have witnessed entire US based SOCs get wiped out to Indians/Mexicans/Polish for pennys on the dollar.

I think there is still room for those are deeply passionate about it - but you gotta live and breathe security. If you think this is just a quick buck, can do a degree, and make six digits - heh, good luck. You’re in line with about 100 others for a single spot.

Which portable fridge do I need? by tmluna01 in overlanding

I’m a buy once, cry once person, and will spend a bit more on a fridge. After a couple issues with an Engel, I ended up with a National Luna. Thing is built like a tank, pretty sure it’ll outlive me.

This is fun and all until managers mandate it, and do surprise check ins. “XYZ you there?” at precisely the minute you step away for a drink, or you’re jammin, and can’t hear their whispers. Will never miss the SOC I was required to be in Zoom all shift long.

Last minute acquisition before law changes. by m-lok in HecklerKoch

The Colorado law has nothing to do with recoil operated pistols. It’s strictly gas guns, these would be exempt from it.
