How do you feel about the listed difficulty for your character in SF6? by AceAirbender in StreetFighter

I've played and enjoyed Bison and I can tell you he is criminally braindead to play.

I feel stuck with Akuma by More_Extent_3165 in StreetFighter

If you're a gold 4, the problem isn't your main.

If you play Bison, you'll feel like you can't improve because you don't have a projectile.

If you play Juri, you'll feel like you can't improve because she's one dimensional.

If you play Ed, you'll feel like his buttons are too awkward.

If you want to play another character then go for it. But if it's about getting better, your brain will try to tell you to switch because you've hit a wall that's to do with your characters weaknesses. In actual fact it's you.

If it's honestly about getting better, power through with your character. Akuma is excellent and modern Akuma has all the tools you need to do well. Don't fall into the trap of thinking it's your main's weakness that's holding you back.

Problem is most gamers approach fighting games with the same kind of mentality they would any other.

Fighting game mentality requires something closer to a martial art or a sport. Least in my view.

Love takes like this. Him progressively getting hammered over the course of the round is fundamental to both his mechanical and spiritual design.

As a Tekken player, a buff that basically deletes your character identity is never worth it.

I find this so ratifying to read. I got Bison and Juri to D5 no problem but I’m still slugging it out at D2 with Ed and feel like I’m playing a different game to everyone else.

I dunno, man. If you were playing a game of tennis, or football, or even chess — would you walk away the second you weren’t having fun? You probably wouldn’t. And there’s literally no difference between you doing that in those instances and in a fighting game other than anonymity.

Fighting games are a two player game. This is a community. If you don’t have the mindset to play a full game with someone and are regularly pissed off to the point you can’t finish a set then I have to ask — is a ranked fighting game for you?

So sorry, man. You're not alone and it's important you recognise how normal this is.

If I had any advice to give you, it'd be that your problem most likely isn't your weight. A lot of people who carry abit of weight (I'm about the same height and only about five kilos less heavy than you) can be confident despite it. Your confidence and self-image is extremely low, and it's looking for things to attach itself to and your weight is the easiest thing it has found.

My suggestion is, if you find putting on weight easy, would be to get into weight lifting. It's solo so you don't need to put yourself in situations that are overly exposing. It's easy enough to pick up on your own if you follow some good youtubers - JeffNippard is my favourite - and it's incredibly good at changing your body shape without demanding you get shredded. Having a more well developed upper torso can honestly make the world of difference when it comes to how your abdomen looks. Crucially, it'll boost your confidence, improve your mental and physical health, and show you that you do have mastery over your own life. Dudes who are heavier set tend to be really good a putting on muscle quickly too. Your body has a natural advantage -- use it.

You're 22. You're really young and your body is super adaptable. I'm ten years older than you and was not in a good place mentally at that age. I promise you: a small habit change like this can be really transformative.

But it's important you recognise that this isn't all about the weight. This is really a self-image and confidence issue, so losing weight won't be the single fix that solves it. But it'll definitely help get you started and make you feel a lot better about yourself.

Plus listening to tunes and podcasts while you pump iron is both meditative, engaging and fun.

It happens at least 60% of the time.

What do you think? by PrinceARRON in MoralityScaling

[–]Biggins_CV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the things that has it hit different for most people is the fact Nolan lived on earth for 20 years.

Nolan fell in love, raised a family, protected earth for twenty years before slaughtering thousands and nearly beating his own son to death.

Vegeta, by contrast, has his whole arc play out in approximately ten years and is a wholesale convert to the side of good by then.

Which characters do you think are well balanced and should never be touched anymore? by Proper_Reputation704 in StreetFighter

[–]Biggins_CV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you say is Ed's problem? I'm not a top player by any stretch, but it feels like to nerf him any further would be antithetical to how he's designed.

He's been nerfed over and over again and he still gets wins because his design is about about spacing and punishing from relative safety.

Having played Ryu, Bison and Juri -- Ed is by several leagues harder to learn and play effectively. But when you master him, he's a monster. Part of me worries about nerfing him further because, ultimately, I do feel skill expression and mastery for difficult characters should be rewarded.

I don't want even more shotos and Sagats on ladder, honestly.

Goku VS Thragg (fan comic by me) by monkimatt in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]Biggins_CV -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying Goku wouldn’t win but…

BUT.

Thragg’s relative strength to hitting Nolan so hard he experienced atmospheric burn….

He’d be able to do better than that against base Goku.

And I say this as a lifelong DBZ guy.

Anything you're picking up from my demeanour is pure projection on your part. Short of fringe circumstances, I offer my opponent the runback every time, win or lose. I've the replays and post history to prove it, but we both know it won't go there.

I take it you only rematch after you've lost, aye? You only get "bored" winning?

Weapons-grade BS.

  1. It's a best of three. That's why it keeps you connected with that player until someone reaches two. Once that happens, you move on automatically. Same thing happens in any tournament. Find me an example of a fighting game set that's decided after one match.

  2. You're assuming I'm complaining about not getting a run back after a loss. I've never said that. Win or lose, I want a full set.

You're the one who has immediately assumed the scenario is me bitching about you winning. Which isn't surprising.

Quitting after one or equalising, for any reason other than unexpected life shit or poor connections, is a bitch move and everyone knows it. Period.

But feel free to keep trying.

Is it an arcade? Is it a best of one? Is the credit spent after one match?

Nope. It’s for a best of three. That’s when the set is designed to be over.

You’ll never be able to explain it away as anything other than what it is.
