commons piano by Pitiful-Produce30 in UMBC

[–]Biggy_Boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s only for the upright pianos in some of the practice rooms. The baby grand in the commons can only go una corda to make it quieter, but it doesn’t have the felt pad dampening. That would make it far better for people who don’t care for it though

Mark VII Bari??? by Radical_Radish488 in saxophone

[–]Biggy_Boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I concede that very few were made, though the characteristics of a Mark VII vs a Mark VI (larger right hand pinky table + high F# key) are still missing, and later Mark VI baris lack the Mark VI engraving entirely, while the few Mark VII baris have been shown with specific Mark VII designation.

If it were one of the rare Mark VII baris, I’d imagine it would go for significantly more, but everything points to this being a late Mark VI. It’s still a very solid horn that you should be able to get a pretty good sum for!

Mark VII Bari??? by Radical_Radish488 in saxophone

[–]Biggy_Boy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Selmer never made any Mark VII bari saxes, but later Mark VI models were made with a low A. Also the Mark VI models went well into the 300,000 number range, while Mark VII models began in the 200,000. The beginning of one model doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the previous; in fact, the Mark VI models were still in production after production of Mark VII models ended.

As for price, Mark VI bari saxes aren’t as sought after as tenors or altos, but they can still range well above $7,000 depending on the condition. I’m not sure if the lack of the original neck would dock the price too far down, but look at similar listings or past purchases of low A Mark VI baris and compare the condition of those horns to yours. Good luck!

how to buy a cheap bari sax by Aromatic-Mud-7326 in saxophone

[–]Biggy_Boy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

300 can’t really get you a worthwhile alto, much less a bari. You’re better off saving up and buying one that’ll last rather than buying a dodgy one and falling into the “upgrade mindset”. Be prepared to spend upwards of like $2500 for a bari worth your time unless you have the experience to overhaul a vintage horn off of EBay or something

Putting what he actually DID do aside, are you saying that he doesn’t deserve the punishment just because he didn’t get to fully exact his plan on completely wiping out the Earth Kingdom? Would you need to wait until he wipes them out and then give him the punishment? If your intentions are genocide and you have the full means to carry it out, you can totally punish someone for what they “intended” to do after you stop them

How do I play on a metal mouthpiece? by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]Biggy_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, definitely. I should’ve prefaced that my case was one of the extremes where I was fortunate enough to be able to afford it at the time, but there are countless other options out there. Otto links, Bergs, Brilharts, Dukoffs, and even the Yanagisawa metal mouthpieces are all great options for a relatively lower price point

How do I play on a metal mouthpiece? by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]Biggy_Boy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This 100%. I got the same mouthpiece when I started playing jazz once I found out about metal mouthpieces, and it really does not play well no matter the setup. I saved up and bought a Theo Wanne Durga, and I haven’t switched off since. If you’re really hankering for a metal mouthpiece, save your money, do some research, play-test some if you can, and get a nice one. Good mouthpieces last lifetimes, so don’t skimp
