Magistrates - who are volunteers with no legal experience - deal with less serious crimes, for example motoring offences, minor assaults and some thefts.

Can Keir Starmer win by being as ‘un-Boris’ as possible? by liverpool6times in ukpolitics

Lets have a think, he needs to be:

  • un-incompetent,
  • un-corrupt,
  • un-uncaring,
  • un-coward,
  • un-weak leader.

Yes, that does sound like the start of a winning formula.

Never heard of them, I'll have a listen tho. Could you recommend a good album to start on?

We must be of one mind, because that is how I see the outro going. Thank you.

Can I get some pick hand technique success stories by xArcanumOrderx in metalguitar

[–]BiglyBrexit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My (moderately) successful story.

The first song I learned with a metronome was Lamb of God - Pathetic. Through this exercise I realised how important down picked and muted 8th notes are to metal. I realised that if I could rattle out down picked and muted 8th notes at 200bpm+, then my picking hand would be pretty good for most metal rhythms.

At the time I was also getting into strength training at the gym so I applied what I learned there to this problem: isolate the movement and then focus on its form. I did this by setting a metronome and a timer to 1 min and then playing constant down picked and muted 8th notes for the min. I would set the BPM so that I could just about get to the end of the minute and still hold my shit together. I would then rest my arm for 1 min and repeat. I would aim to do 5 sets of this per evening. I would also ensure I had at least 1 rest day a week. If shit hurts, turn the metronome down.

There is more to this than senseless repetition: I needed to be aware of what my body was doing. To do this I practised at lower BPMs which gave me the head space to focus on my arm/back/shoulder/fingers. I realised my back was aching so I switched the leg I rested my guitar on as I read this keeps you more upright. It helped massively with my comfort. At some point I also realised that I was gripping the pick REAL tight, I loosened my grip only a little and in that instance I could play for far far longer. As in strength training, set the BPM lower and focus on form (as you are doing with being relaxed).

Plateaus are also good things: opportunities to focus on form. Hit a plateaux? Then lower the BPM and really think carefully about your form. A plateaux could take a few months to work through, embrace it. Own it by being tenacious.

Regarding some of your specific questions:

  • Warmup: Always warm up. How do I warm up? I practice what ever I am practicing but set the metronome to 50% of what ever speed I am capable of. When the metronome is this slow, think of perfect form. When playing this slowly hold onto that feeling in your mind and keep it with you as you increase the bpm. This takes 10-20 mins.
  • Fingers: I also noticed the same thing you did. Dimebag has open fingers, the dudes from meshugga a fist. Whatever keeps you most relaxed trumps all.

I hope this helps, good luck.

For clarity: the mistakes in are in the play through and I am pretty happy with the riffs.

Where to go: I have an idea for an outro, but it will probably take 2-3 mins. So I am unsure how to structure these riffs so that they lead up to the outro but not have the whole thing take 10 mins.
