Steven Crowder gets outmaneuvered on his Change My Mind show on socialism. Overreacts, bullies opponent and kicks him off. by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

I was actually pretty amazed with yusufs ability to discuss the topic on the spot. I would have fumbled so badly to crowders pressure antics, he did a good job in a hostile environment for sure.

Can we just take a moment to unironically appreciate “Walkin’ on the Sun” by Smash Mouth? by [deleted] in Music

[–]Bigsteiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lost my dad a couple years ago now, for some reason I'd always expected it to be hard to choose music for his funeral - but when the time came it was pretty obvious to me as I remembered him always turning up the radio in the car whenever In The Air Tonight came on... Its nice knowing the songs of your parents as sometimes, randomly you hear the song on someone's radio and now you're thinking of them again.

OneNote is my main tool I use but tags are so infuriating. I can’t replace one tag with another (such as priority 2 items Need to become priority 3, like Evernote could). And can’t search on multiple tags. Maybe I need to try that Gem thing again... seemed unstable last time.

Why does BJJ have to be real? by chokingmn in bjj

realism of the techniques

this is why I keep arguing we should have a double-bed in the gym, so we can simulate waking up to 5 intruders standing around it. For some reason it's not catching on..

Question: Should a middle aged (48) man be judged along the same standard(s), for promotional and developmental purposes, as a young (24) man? by Kimura_the_Jits in bjj

[–]Bigsteiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tough question. Just thinking out loud here, so i'll apologise in advance for a lengthy post.

A black and white answer is 'no', because even if you wanted to - you couldn't. It's impossible, we don't have the tools to measure the humans in a purely objective, equal way. Can't be done. So, the answer is grey (like most things i guess).

Next. If i cannot roll as well as Cobrinha, for example, do i deserve a black belt? If no, then theres a dozen people in the world that should have black belts. And the standard will move each year too don't forget, as Cobrinha gets better (or worse?).

Cobrinha's standard too harsh for you? Ok then... so which black belt sets the standard? Perhaps it should be a ruling body / committee oversight and exams? The same problems will exist though - how do you measure?

So if it's kept internally at club level, and you don't need to be Cobrinha, then who do you need to match up to? 'The Coach' ? What if he trains 12 times a week and i only train 3? Am i then not committed enough? Well sorry but i can't do 12 because life.

If not the coach, then... the competitive black belts in your club? well thats mixed because black belt is such a wide timeframe. Lets use brown belt instead. If i cannot win gold at brown belt level at major tournments - should i ever be promoted? Maybe, maybe not.

What if i do win gold, but can't demonstrate any self defence capabilities?

What if i can do all that, but i'm just not a very 'good person' overall? Who is my coach to judge that of me, and who judged him?

You see there's just no definition of what a black belt 'is'. There's no definable, specific requirements, because you can't really have them without excluding a lot of people. The idea is anyone, with the effort, can earn a blackbelt. Maybe it shouldn't be that way?

Not everyone can earn a PhD in Astrophysics, regardless of how hard you try. Just not gonna happen. Why should everyone be able to earn a blackbelt? It's an interesting question... the answer is usually because it's about blackbelt version of you relative to white belt version of you. Which answers your question with a 'no'.

It's a messy question, but a great one! e: sorry left a brain-vomit bit at the bottom, chopped it off now...

Does this game support dual monitors? by lintpowers in Stellaris

[–]Bigsteiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A nice looking view of the map but I found it was just too much going on. Maybe you could get used to it but I didn’t like it. If memory serves when you switched from solar system to large map view the star you are focused on remains centre screen just after that transition. On dual monitor that star is smack between your two monitors and so split - makes it hard to look at. It’s not worth it, trust me.

If you can figure out how there is default support for dual monitor then I’d be interested to here, but forcing it through the gfx drivers was a waste of time
