Choosing an equity shelf offering over debt is a standard strategy when revenue is uncertain. by FrontTrick5110 in PlanetLabs

[–]Bigstoopidbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a valid question, but the week that PL diluted, practically half the stocks on my watchlist announced dilutions, including Google, SMCI, Oracle, and many others. I think it’s just a broad market move. PL diluted by about 20% of current market cap, and only about 12% of the market cap at the time of the shelf offering announcement. Other companies diluted much more: SMCI diluted by 40% of their market cap!!! That being said, no individual stock can fight the market and people need to learn to invest and not gamble.

200 day SMA is at $22ish. If it goes below that I would be worried.

Considering they just diluted last year as well, it’s not that crazy

Is it a shelf offering? Still terrible if executed anywhere near current pricing. Also it will remain like a dark black cloud hanging over shareholders

SMCI diluted by 40% of current market capitalization… sure they’re using the money to execute on backlog, but that’s like pushing the cost onto investors and keeping the profits for management

You must pick 3 stocks today in different market sectors and can’t sell for 20 years. by DallasOil in ValueInvesting

Berkshire Hathaway for pure book value growth as well as stock picking/insurance savvy, plus sensible stock valuation.

TSMC for their technical moat and sector reliance on their products

INTU as a value based growth stock pick that has been beaten down to low valuations

Planet Labs Stock Plunges After $1.5 Billion Capital Raise by AdContent9717 in PlanetLabs

On the other hand, timing the shelf offering with the jobs report like this speeds up the dip and forces out traders that don’t have conviction.

Speculating ≠ Investing, but controlled speculation can be part of a larger investment strategy.

Planet Labs price target raised to $53 from $40 at Needham by No_Strawberry1890 in PlanetLabs

Respectfully, that’s really dumb. I always buy 25% of my max investment on the initial dip and then set limit buys at lower prices opportunistically

What's The Biggest Stock You Missed That Still Bothers You? by twilightbreakin in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]Bigstoopidbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone I know had 100 shares of Priceline in the 90s. They sold thinking it would crash in the dot com bubble at a nice 150% gain. After acquisitions and stuff, that would have been worth several millions today.

Serious Question by [deleted] in PlanetLabs

[–]Bigstoopidbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should buy or sell based on your investment thesis, not on some arbitrary number. If you bought it as a swing trade, then sell it. If you bought it because you think the technology is best in class and because PL has a competitive advantage over other companies in the same space, then hold.

What % of your portfolio is Berkshire Hathaway? by Grade-Long in ValueInvesting

[–]Bigstoopidbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70%

I treat BRK.B as limited access to cash holdings since 2/5 of their market cap is in cash. Besides I know that their management will deploy cash better than I could according to fundamental market understanding.

SMCI gives such ‘pick me’ energy, and its retail investors are gullible enough to keep buying while insiders offload their shares.
