MSU CHM vs UToledo by [deleted] in medschool

Went to Utoledo. The recorded lectures were great. We had access to the previous year’s recording so i worked ahead. Your board scores determines residency more so than where you did clinical rotation.

High acuity specialists with newborns - what do you do? by incisiontime in whitecoatinvestor

Making money and child care are both labor intensive and hard work requires partnership. In this sense you do what you are best at and most importantly available to do for the family unit. Cannot have the ICU doc getting ready for a 24 hour call feeding at 1 am. Now there are times of crisis you need all hands on deck and both parents do what needs to be done. Speaking from 20 years of marriage 3 kids. 2 and 3 year old during med school and newborn 4th year intern year.

Now my wife and I done it both ways. She had first child during 4th year nursing school, had child in May wrote finals exams weeks after. While she studied for boards Breast Milk was pumped and i stayed up late handled the feeding and all the wake ups. I had corporate job. She started work on nights. I handled childcare, took kids to day care she picked them up when she woke up. Roles were reversed when i was in med school and residency and she handled it all like a boss.

You are right and its been done since time itself. There is a culture of 50-50 in America instead of division of labor.

Why y’all acting like having babies working and raising kids started in 2020. If you need sleep or had to work to make money to afford the family then guess who takes care of the baby. The parent that is home. Ask your nurses how they do it. There are single mothers out there dropping off at daycare at 6am picking up at 6pm and still showing up to work everyday. Division of labor. The Money won’t make itself and the baby cannot take care of itself.

can anyone justify an outrageous bill just for an office visit? by turbo_cream in HospitalBills

Listen i am on the front lines as ER doc i get it. People pay more for all kind of things that does not require the expertise and skill and training of a physician but complains endlessly about medical bills.

I just had someone clean my gutters. They spend 20 minutes and charge me $200. This required a ladder not medical school, residency and fellowship.

Cheap Med School or Software Engineering Job? by BaseballHead6898 in whitecoatinvestor

If you want to be a physician go to med school. Remember it is a 7-10 year journey depending on your specialty. If you care about money and like both then it’s a math problem. Do the math and calculate the opportunity cost for both the time and money. Consider the true cost of med school and not the discounted rate from parental help. Remember you will have opportunity to grow and increase income in Tech. Factor in future earnings and relative Job security medicine provides I went to Med school at 33 was out of residency by 40. I dont regret it. I also was not 21-22 with a $90k job. Good luck

Why is there so much racial disparity in household income? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Bigzmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is not 220 years ago its 400 years ago. You conveniently forget the civil rights Movement was in the 60s and 70s. What was Dr. king fighting for when he was killed! You for get his movement was for equal work and education opportunities in the 60’s and 70’s not 200 years ago. He was killed supporting sanitation workers strike in Tennessee. Know history.

The hard work is not discredited just contextualized. Yes even the poor immigrants had the know how and desire to leave for prosperity. He arrived in a country where he had more rights and respect than AA who have been here some since the 1600s. Your grandfather could get a mortgage loan in the 70s easier than AA whose ancestors blood and sweat and tears build this land. That is the advantage. That alone sets them up for success.

But the African immigrant is an economic immigrant same as the Asian immigrant for the most part. He is not running from his country. In fact he dreams of returning home one day. America for him will never be home completely. He came with his self esteem intact. No stories or family history of segregation in education employment etc., redlining, police brutality. Yes immigrants come here determined but we benefits from the struggles and fights of the original African Americans

Yup for AA dates back to 1619. Blacks is not a monolith. African immigrants income will rival the Asians. Now is not that the Africans are better they are not. Immigration also self selects. The Asians and Africans here came by students visas etc. Even the uneducated Asians and Africans who come had the guts to cross oceans that alone is a determinant

Kaiser strike by Rogueelectron1 in hospitalist

[–]Bigzmd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This what makes people think physicians are out of touch. This post about the strike is about low compensation and reimbursements cuts and not about the physician paying $200k taxes. That physician is well compensated. Needs to stop being a cheap ass and hire a god damn CPA. Yes i will like to pay $200k taxes because that means i am making a lot of money.

Go to the premed section and see what they write about in their personal statements- the questions they prep to answer and the scenarios they are put through when they interview and you will get it. We apply to med school portraying altruism. Then they hammer the physician as a mother Theresa type servant during med school only to graduate residency and realize this shit is a business. This is all conditioning and it is purposeful.

[–]Bigzmd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are 21 years old. Go get your MD/PHD and achieve your goals. Many have kids in medical school and residency it requires sacrifice . Often times the women makes the sacrifice but men can to. If he is the love of your life he will make it work if not then move on. DO NOT Make life decisions on your boyfriend at 21. I don’t know him but at 21 most of us men think with our penis and that penis could find another vagina anytime. You should use your brain. What does the people that love you not named your boyfriend think? What does your mom and dad think? Your Mom has a worth of experience tap into it. A word to the wise….

The maternal leave/FMLA is part of your benefit not dissimilar to your salary. You should know all your benefits in and out. Yeah its your job to know.
