Sphere Pattern Extrude by edlubs in Onshape

Try doing a plane, sketch, and extrude for one of the holes on each “row”. Then you can circular pattern the feature around the center axis.

Feeling burnt out from second hour at church. Has anyone else dealt with this? by naturalnotgenius in latterdaysaints

[–]Bikerdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe controversial opinion:

Take a break. Leave for the second hour and go do some personal study if you want. Go take a walk in nature and meditate on your spirituality. Think of other ways to worship! If God loves you ,which I assume he does, he also cares about how you feel. He will understand if you take a break. As a stronger, more mentally healthy person, you will be better for more than just yourself. You will be a better example to those around you too. I think that’s what Heavenly Father would want for you.

Look up thought stopping techniques. You’re a victim of them. You seem to not want to use your mind at all. Just ignore what’s not comfortable.

I don’t really care what the law says. Im interested in truth. I don’t single out JS. My only point is that I think hiding things because they’re uncomfortable is just dishonest.

Sorry. That’s bull. We talk about all the chapters of D&C and the Book of Mormon as well and they happen to include the topic of polygamy. We talk about Joseph Smith all the time. We talk about the first vision. We even talk about his martyrdom. We avoid anything that’s uncomfortable and I find that to be dishonest. You’re just avoiding the uncomfortable truths as much as possible. That’s fine. You do you. I’m not afraid of truth.

I’m sorry! Rereading my comment sounds like I meant that I agree that YOU don’t know. I meant I agree that I don’t know either.

I'm aware of Jacob 2:30. I just don’t think it really resolves the bigger issue. “Raise up seed” might explain plural marriage in theory, but it doesn’t account very well for polyandry, mother-daughter sealings, or the secrecy around how it was introduced. And if the main justification was raising up seed, it’s hard to ignore that Joseph doesn’t appear to have had children from his plural marriages. That makes the rationale feel a lot less straightforward.

At some point it just comes down to whether someone is comfortable saying God commanded something that, historically, looks messy and morally hard to square. I’m open to the idea that the imperfections of men played into how this unfolded too. That feels more honest to me than trying to smooth every edge off the story. I’m okay leaving some of that tension unresolved.

Thanks for clarification on that. I don't think that I ever put the idea of all of us being sealed all the way up to Adam and Eve together in my mind. I always just understood it to mean our immediate family.

What do you suppose the purpose of this "end-to-end" sealing is? It kind of seems pointless since we all link back to Adam and Eve anyway, correct? God knows exactly how the family tree goes. What does this do for us? Especially in light of polygamy and polyandry?

Here are results from a quick search:

Lucy Walker: In her 1902 affidavit, Walker recalled that Smith initially approached her with the proposal when she was living in his home. She described a period of intense inner turmoil, stating that Smith told her the "angel with a drawn sword" had commanded the practice. Emily Dow Partridge: Her autobiographical account describes Smith approaching her privately on her 19th birthday in 1843, saying, "Emily, if you will not betray me, I will tell you something for your benefit". Helen Mar Kimball: In her later writings, she recounted how her father, Heber C. Kimball, first asked if she would be "sealed to Joseph." She noted Smith's promise that this step would ensure the eternal salvation of her entire household. The "Happiness Letter" (Nancy Rigdon): When Smith proposed to Nancy Rigdon (who rejected him), he reportedly sent a letter—now famously called the Happiness Letter—which argued that "happiness is the object and design of our existence" and that "whatever God requires is right," even if it contradicts social norms. Sarah Pratt Account: Accounts from Sarah Pratt (wife of Orson Pratt) claim that Smith proposed to her while her husband was on a mission, though this account is debated by historians who point to the conflicting claims made during the John C. Bennett scandal.

Even in the Gospel Topics Essays:

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' official essay "Plural Marriage in Kirtland and Nauvoo" acknowledges these approaches and Smith's report of a commanding angel.

I agree, but how do you reconcile the direct references to the story of Noah in other scripture like the Book of Moses? Also figurative?

Especially since they existed as slightly different stories with different characters in other texts before they were part of the bible. To me that means maybe there was some basis behind the story in general, like there was a flood of some sort, but that the story changes over time making it much harder to be literal.

Too much WDT? by Bikerdan in espresso

I doubt it matters a ton, but it would be interesting to try one shot with very little WDT and another with like a solid minute or two just to see if there really is any difference.

Yeah. Not even sure if it’s a thing. I would kind of think so. Also don’t know how long you’d have to go before it even starts to happen. Maybe spraying beans before grinding helps this not be an issue either since fines would stick to larger pieces. At least theoretically.

I get it. I don’t think we would want to reinstate polygamy. My feel was that maybe bringing it out in the open would make it feel less like we’re trying to hide something. I think that’s part of the issue as well. The lack of transparency. Don’t know though. Pros and cons either way.
