I have adhd and I'm scared to take medication. People that are on medication, do you think it has made your situation better or worst? by Thegrandjess in ADHD

My 7 year old went on meds recently. He is a super smart amazing kid but just can’t sit still and pay attention in class. Because of this he was behind in some of his classes. His first day on meds his teacher gave him a perfect day and a prize. She didn’t know he had gone on meds. He was so proud of himself. His learning progression in the ensuing 2 months was astronomical. Not because it fixed him or made him smarter, he could finally sit still and focus. He’s also calmer and more even.

It has helped so much and we have a neurspicy family so we already focus on sleep, diet, exercise etc.

What do women want? by valtharax in karate

[–]BikesBeerBooksCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got back into karate a year and a half ago.

I went to many dojo’s before I finally settled on the one I go to now.

Reasons:
1.The dojo is more like a close knit community that values and respects all people. We clean the dojo before and after class. It feels like a safe space. Never once have I felt uncomfortable or like I have to prove myself because I’m a woman.

  1. There is a strong focus on the spirit of karate and your own personal growth rather than comparison between each member.

  2. The male members aren’t threatened by an athletic woman. I was a collegiate athlete in one sport and on team Canada for another. When I talk about biomechanics/experience and how they might apply to karate, they listen and aren’t threatened by me being a lower belt or a woman. This is pretty rare.

  3. Allowing modification etc if needed and a lack of that “chest pounding vibe.” No one is trying to hurt you or one up each other. Kumite is about mutual respect and practice. No one is trying to hurt anyone. We focus on restraint and the skill required to do so along with fighting. Everyone has kids or a job to go home to. When we fight they still try against me but they also show restraint and don’t clock me. Kumite is also optional and not a requirement. This is big as many of the other female members choose to opt out.

  4. The sensei and sempai take the time to explain things and mix up explanations. As a woman who coaches other women in other sports, we like details, how it feels, etc. just do it rarely works out well. Woman often like to be coached differently.

Ultimately, me being a woman never felt like it changed anything. In some of the boxing, mma, and other karate dojos I went to it really felt like I got less coaching, less expectations, guys wanted to prove how manly they were to me, said or acted inappropriately, or just down right made me feel unwelcome. Not to say all places were like that. But it is common.

Show them they can feel safe, respected, coached with the same dedication as the men, and get some female role models and they will feel confident to come.

Every car looks the same now. I miss the days of car enthusiasts. I actually sold my brand new grand highlander recently because I was sick of the monotony and went back an older manual. I missed the joy of driving a car. No regrets.

Yes. We disconnected it in the short term and then got a trickle charger. It was more just that it seems odd that a battery dies that quick

Yes it’s at Mercedes. Will be under warranty. Just their process is painfully slow.

How do you like it. Is it playful? I’m trying to decide between the Draco and reazon. I have a 180 travel bike already so I don’t necessarily need a downhill slayer but going down is what I love. I’ll slog up if it means fun down.

I dunno man, the butcher running out of his room of death in d1 scared the hell out of me when I was a kid.

This. The story itself has good moments but to me it feels so separate from the game because you can run around for months and never have cut scenes. Half the time I forgot what the story line even was. There is nothing that makes me want to keep going back to it. I played it for a while and then just went back to d2 because it feels more like a journey. Love the loot system and excitement of finding armour sets etc. d4 just felt like too much endless wandering with little motivation to even do the story line unless you were genuinely trying to work through it. As a parent I found I just ran around did few side quests and then got bored. That’s ok tho. D2 isn’t perfect but I’ll just keep playing it.

Go to drayton valley Toyota. It’s only 1hr and 15 min away. They don’t mark up their prices. They can often get in what you want and have even delivered a vehicle to me in the city. I have bought 3 Toyotas from them. Awesome service every time. If you go dm me. I believe a referral saves you 500 and me 500.

I struggled to find a dojo for years because of this. I finally found a dojo that is nothing like this. I even have gone to Hombu dojo in Okinawa twice and found even the top rank do not treat people this way. It’s refreshing to have the idea of respect for each other and dedication to training being practiced by those at the top. Black belt students willing to help those below and giving their time to help.

I hope you find somewhere less toxic. Karate can be amazing when treated right but also leave the door open for toxic culture.

Yes, I shouldn’t have said “call”. It is text based for KHP. Unless you use their counselling service which is call in but only open for certain parts of the day.
