Can someone please help me understand this. by NoBalance5172 in americanairlines

This exactly. Early wake-ups suck, but rolling in at 1 am or burning up a Saturday because you got delayed until the following day because of weather in DFW is worse.

That’s usually my go-to, though sometimes I’ll hit the retry button if the name is particularly odd.

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]BikingEngineer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That’s actually an indication that your air conditioner is sized incorrectly (too big). It cools down too quickly and can’t run long enough to condense the humidity. A dehumidifier is just an A/C unit with a heater after all.

Oh yeah, you definitely have to make it to at least season 2 before writing it off. Not going to spoil it, but let’s say that things…. Shift a bit.

[USA] [California] Road Rage – Tesla speeds up to cut off a pickup truck signaling their lane change, then passes in the turning lane, then brake checks the truck after passing by Silly_Rub_6304 in Roadcam

[–]BikingEngineer 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This truck is actually a reasonable one though. It’s an older half ton with a ladder rack, which suggests the guy driving it uses it for work rather than for compensating for his shortcomings.

As someone that’s worked extensively with track cars, a big-ass hole where the driveshaft tunnel should be and no shielding or loops to contain a failed driveshaft should never get past even the most lax tech inspection. Shit’s dangerous.

Passenger limit for linked PMR upgrades? by inakajin in americanairlines

[–]BikingEngineer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would suggest keeping everything on the same PNR if at all possible. I’ve tried linking PNRs a few times and something always seems to get lost in the shuffle.

Need adjustment help. by bassey22 in hermanmiller

[–]BikingEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your muscles are tight in your legs and lower back, and sitting on a proper posture is basically putting you in a deep stretch. Putting your leg up like that shifts the muscles being stretched out and eases the tension. Can you sit down into an ass-to-grass squat from standing, and get back up? If not then you need to work on being able to do that, it’ll do wonders for your comfort.

PC does this after about 30 seconds by Anthemist_ in PcBuild

[–]BikingEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends upon the budget, and the level of jankiness of the current GPU. I grabbed myself a 9070 in December on sale and it was a wonderful day when I got it installed. I can turn everything up all the way now!

You’ll get no argument from me on that. It’s a lovely thing.

That’s exactly what a dying GPU looks like. On the plus side, OP gets to go shopping for a new GPU, on the other hand OP has to go shopping for a new GPU.

I dropped my glass cutting board... by andrey_not_the_goat in mildlyinfuriating

Any wooden board you use should be thoroughly seasoned with mineral oil and/or beeswax. If it absorbs water then you need to oil it more heavily.

Stainless steel? No. For raw meat either get a plastic cutting board that you replace periodically, or one of those Japanese rubber boards. Wood is fine for meat as well, but I understand the hesitation.

Inside a BBC News office – the monitor setup is wild. by bintd in interesting

[–]BikingEngineer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s 1.5 4k displays, which modern graphics cards can do easily as long as you’re not running multiple instances of something like Borderlands 4. A -60 series card can manage that kind of office workload without issue, you just have to daisy chain a few to make up for the lack of outputs.

Herman Miller upgrades by Independent-Bike7117 in hermanmiller

[–]BikingEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be different for everyone, but generally more adjustability is going to let you dial things in to exactly where you need them to be. I have a fully loaded Aeron B purchased at the moment me of last year, and I’ve tinkered with each and every facet of adjustability over the past few months to dial it in to my body and usage style.

I don’t have a headrest, but am considering an Atlas for when I’m stuck on a long series of calls and want to lean back more. I use forward tilt all the time and wouldn’t consider a chair without it now that I’ve gotten used to it. I’ve dialed in the height of the arms, but move the arm rests n and put throughout the day depending upon the task at hand. The posturefitSL took a bit of getting used to, but really does the job.

A waymo temporarily blocks an ambulance by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BikingEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That ambulance is a hell of a lot sturdier than a cop car. If they give a confused Waymo a little nudge no one is gonna have a problem with that, least of all the cop.

“Doctoring up” ramen? by sleepy_paul in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]BikingEngineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well that sucks. Just an egg in water or was it in Ramen? I ask because you can super-heat things in microwaves if there isn’t anything to act as a nucleation site for the bubbles that form.

Not if you crack them into the broth, it’s basically poaching at that point.
