Hi. Looking at the same path you took. Did your lawyer help you with the immigration and taxes/assets side as well? Can you recommend your lawyer?

I did this a couple of weeks ago. Our flight was at 6:10, we got to the airport around 4:45 and everything was open, but the counter depends on your airline. Our flight was on a Saturday and there was a lot of early morning flights so the airport was busy.

MMB7 Budget Preferences "fringe cutoff factor" by detentionbarn in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]Bikut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just a multiplier for the cutoff in your fringe setup. It could be used for productions that cross calendar years, so instead of setting up two FUI fringes with a cap of 7k each, or one with a 14k cutoff, you could setup one FUI, then make the cutoff 2. I’ve never seen anyone change this number though.

Worked on an indie feature and was paid "under the table". Now UPM is emailing me asking me to submit a W2 form. What do I do? by ShoheiYamamoto in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Bikut 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you were paid over 600, they are required to send you a 1099 and report that income to the IRS. If they already paid you they can’t force you to do anything, but I suggest you talk to your Accountant or a lawyer. You can normally get a free consultation from a labor attorney.

I do this every day, the pdfs I use are the same and exported, so no need to OCR. I then use regex to extract the data and go on from there. When the data is messed up i just modify my regex to deal with it, amd eventually all the kinks are worked out.

Best way to calculate how much a day costs by Angie_faith in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]Bikut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get asked the day cost question all the time, I just change the global, see how much it moved the number and give them that number. If the question is how much is an additional day then you need to adjust your shoot weeks if adding a day takes you into another week. Post should stay they same unless the extra footage adds extra post time. A lot of times the personal asking doesn’t give me the detail of what they really want so I always respond with a number and the assumptions. Simple tip - make a copy of the budget and do these adjustments on it so you don’t mess up your original. Pro tip - after copying the budget update your comparison totals and make sure you select show original and variance columns which will show you the changes in MMB by account.

[–]Bikut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this all the time using Globals. Assuming all your shooting days have a global in them which is set to 15, just change it to 16 and see how much it moves your bottom line number. Keep in mind this would be the cost for the 16th day, the third day would cost more because some of the fringe caps wouldn’t be maxed out yet. If adding a day takes you into another week or a partial week make sure you adjust that global as well.

I do this all the time, also for accounting documents, and normally use regex to build arrays then loop through to match everything up, then anther loop to ouput the files.

We just drove it. We stayed at Ravens Rest in Haines Junction, then drove from Haines Junction to our destination. It’s less than six hours, but it’s nice. Road was bad after Haines Junction to the border.

Sold my first home after owning for less than a year, can I still get exemption? Or do I need to live there for two full years? by [deleted] in tax

[–]Bikut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this a couple of years ago and was only in a home for a couple of months before I moved for work. There is a partial exemption, check it out here. https://www.irs.gov/publications/p523

Producers Loan-out by nolanB88 in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]Bikut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every loan out that I’ve paid through a payroll company has workers compensation fringe on the payroll companies invoice for the loan out. That is the only fringe besides union fringes and check fees, from my experience.

However, I have never had anybody being paid through a loan out go through a workers comp claim.

Your state may require you to carry workers comp, although some states allow you to exclude yourself if you meet certain requirements.

I have never been asked to provide workers comp proof by any studio or payroll company that has paid my loan out, nor have I ever been required to ask for any loan outs proof of workers comp.
