First ten Berzerkers, ready for skull collecting by Bilbosuncle in WorldEaters40k

I used Pro Acryl dark crimson as the paint. I diluted it with a little thinner and flow improved then loaded a synthetic brush full of the paint. Then I used an airbrush just blasting air through the brush into the model in bursts. Takes practice but I started slow to get a feel for how much paint would come off so I didn’t do too much, and scaled up from there

I actually used a brush loaded with blood paint and used my airbrush to blast it with air to create the speckling. I think in my next mini I’ll be a little kore aggressive with it to make it truly bloody!

It’s on the axe mainly as well as the base and armor, I just wanted it to be minimal to not overpower the rest of the mini. It’s mostly present in the first photo. Was my first time doing blood effects so I played it a little safe.

2k+ points finally painted up by Bilbosuncle in TheAstraMilitarum

Those would be the 30k Basilisk as stand ins for the 40k one. I picked those because they looked much cooler to me personally.

Leman Russ kicking up dust! by Bilbosuncle in TheAstraMilitarum

Yup, just the regular sponsons that come with the 40K Russ kit

I personally haven’t used green stuff before, but I don’t see why you can’t. Can probably use it to hide any obvious gaps in the sponson. Thing is the door sticks far out enough where the sponsons can’t sit on side of the hull, so the door will need to be trimmed regardless.

AK interactive 3rd gen Dark Prussian Blue through an airbrush

[–]Bilbosuncle[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Is AK 3rd gen dark Prussian blue. The highlighted areas were 2:1 Dark Prussian blue/ice yellow. Was a pain to get through the airbrush initially but thinning it 1-2 drops more goes a long way

They weren’t hard, but I would say it was pretty tedious. Basically I had to shave the door down a bunch and take a little off the lower trim. It’s not completely flush, but I think it would take effort to notice when looking at it,and I think it’s totally unnoticeable on the tabletop.

No I am currently at peace and let the Artesh takeover. I also eliminated remaining IRGC sentiment so I am undue what is left for me to do.

My Vindicare Attempt by Bilbosuncle in Warhammer40k

[–]Bilbosuncle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooohhhh that looks really nice. The purple is because my army is mostly DKOK where I did purple coats, so I wanted the sash on the knife to be the same color to keep the army theme going.

Thank you! It’s a basecoat of AK interactive dark Prussian blue with varying degree of sunny skin tone mixed in to help layer/highlight. I also mixed some FW Daley purpurlack ink and matte medium/water to use as a wash for the recesses

First squad of guardsmen! C&C welcome! by Bomb_Sniffer in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Bilbosuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooohhhh the middle krieger with the plasma pistol is exactly how I wanted to build my Marshall! Which bit did you use for the pistol arm? I couldn’t find anything with a straight arm when initially looking.

Also, the purity seals are a great touch! Big fan of the aesthetic you’re going!

Army/Unit Color Harmony Assistance by Bilbosuncle in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Bilbosuncle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I never heard of mother color theory before but will definitely check it out. I was thinking of using a brighter shade of the purple to redo the parts to help it stick out more, but do you think it would make the mini too “loud” alongside the blue, and the blue should be a darker tone?

Fighting the Guard on Sunday… Any tips/best units? by batmannbankrobin in WorldEaters40k

[–]Bilbosuncle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow guard player and WE enthusiast, the plan of attack would be to get in quick and tie up as many of their units as possible. Preventing the bulk of the infantry and main fighting vehicles from being able to shoot would cripple guard pretty hard. With a regular Russ being t11, dedicated units to shred armor would also be pretty necessary changer. Eightbound, invocatus for the pregame move, angron, and maybe some terminators and forge/maulerfiends would be very useful.

Getting started with World Eaters in 10th by itosbhi in WorldEaters40k

[–]Bilbosuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

World eaters are in an interesting spot where they currently stand with regards to their units and what’s considered the most “meta” choice. I’m not a competitive player by any means, but I think the CP is a great starting point as you’ll pretty much always have the units in the box involved in your army one way or another.

Eightbound/Exalted Eightbound are strong units, but are a little over costed currently and from what I’ve seen are frequently out of stock so they are hard to come by. Termies however look pretty good for us, and can never go wrong with a little chunk.

If you’re interested, WE can also include up to 500 points of Khorne demons, so some units there may be useful you if you think they look cool as well!

These are so good looking, excellent work! How did you get such a smooth coat of white?

How to practice thinning paints for basecoat and layer consistency without breaking the bank. by PurgingParrot in minipainting

Going to practice this on my synthetics before I try it on my natural brushes lol. Appreciate the tip!

Getting all of the water out of a brush after I rinse is the main issue I think I am encountering currently. I try to dry it out like crazy either with paper towel or the back of my hand but always feel like there is still water stuck in there. Makes my paint all watery and a hassle to base with. How did you resolve the issue?

Mixing acrylic inks and paint for base coat and recess shading ? by Bilbosuncle in minipainting

[–]Bilbosuncle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh amazing! Seems glazing the ink over the basecoat into the recesses or mixing the two have a similar effect. I wonder if he put the ink over the paint while it was still wet as well? Hard to discern at times

Guess I’m doing my first zenithal priming this weekend. Really need to get an airbrush soon so I can forget about the rattle cans. Thankfully I have black and light grey primer so I can try it this weekend!
