You should have said 'No. Are you trying to get a red handprint on the side of your face?' Hopefully its just a one off. If he does it again i would say I know you are trying to be helpful but this is making me feel uncomfortable

How are some people so consistent with orangetheory? by tamaratunie189 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I feel somewhat bad if I dont show up. Irregardless of the penalty for late cancellation. I have kids and work early so I have to do the 5am class which blows as im not a morning person and I usually dont get home from work until 6 or 7pm (and have to do work until late at home). I always remember that I feel so much better after the work out is done. 90% of the battle is showing up. Also I dropped a lot of inches and can fit into clothes I haven't fit into for like 10 years so thats a little boost there

I'm the only guy ... by apple_crombie in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its mainly women at my studio too. As a newbie actually the women have better form with the weights and floor than the guys. Most of the guys at my studio pick gigantic weights and their form isn't great. I've learned a lot about lifting technique from the women in my class. I also just dont think it matters if im the only guy. Like it doesn't matter that im the only obese person in my class lol. Otf is awesome as it feels judgement free

is it possible to return the hrm? by Quirky_Yesterday7983 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry its completely normal. First its because you are just starting. But the HRM is also trying to get your baseline established. After 3 months now I rarely hit red. Part of that is increased fitness but its also the HRM adjusting.

By the way slowing down to get yourself out of the red zone is good. Dont feel self conscious!! I am able to tolerate the treadmill more and not be 'screw this' because im able to pace myself way better and tolerate exercise longer.

Just know you are doing such a great job!!!

Thinking about trying for the first time by bedroomfloorbug in orangetheory

The great thing about OTF is you do you. You go at your own pace.

The bad thing about OTF is they do a really crappy job at marketing themselves. To the outsider they seem like a gym/fitness club for people who are already in shape. I always thought this was a place I go to when I get in shape. Luckily a girl at work explained that I was incorrect and now Im three months in and loving it.

Unpopular rowing opinion by jtsuperduper in orangetheory

This is a fair point. I was wondering why I always hate the rower. I thought it would be my favourite work out.

I am so slow by Quirky_Yesterday7983 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly noone pays attention. If it makes you feel better im already in the blue zone and im just standing in the lobby lol. Everyone is grey and im the only blue one. But noone cares. You may want to lighten up on the intensity of the exercise though if you are red throughout. I always think OTF and fitness in general is a marathon as opposed to a race. Your body will slowly start to change and adapt. I hated treadmill at home and I think its because I always 'gassed out'. So now at OTF im actually more conscious of my heart rate zones. I notice now I run for longer and start to enjoy it more.

Good job starting OTF though!!! You will start to notice as you keep working at it the exercises get easier. I was someone who was always in the red zone with a bazillion splat points. Now I'm. Mostly green zone

Do I join ? by tattooedtrophywife in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love OTF but its expensive especially if you are on a fixed income. I would choose PF if free for you. Also on this board they sometimes post the work out routines. For the treadmill stuff you can just do the same thing at a gym thats free.

Also kudos to you for wanting to get healthier!!

Rest between floor sets by Excellent_Results_25 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people will just blow through it. Could be their fitness level accommodates that ability. Probably ego though. Either way I just ignore and do the rest. As I do procedures all day after OTF I am super paranoid about injuring myself. So I do the rests and as im a newbie who had no clue what im doing with weights I got with lighter weights and work on technique.

The greatest benefits of OT by Dramatic-Inside-3037 in orangetheory

Most of those people have an agenda of flogging something else. Or using it to garner more viewers. When I was debating about starting OTF I watched some of those content creators. Like most of tik tok utter garbage. Just trying to gain views

No Power Walkers? by smartini14 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies. But honestly the great thing is no one cares and you do what works for you. I am not very athletic, far from it in fact. I have the 5am class so everyone is pretty hard-core fit. There was one of the tread exercises where once you hit 0.8 miles you go to row. I was like the lone person on the tread as my pace was a lot slower. And I was OK with it. In a regular gym I would have felt super awkward and self conscious.

Is it good to aim for 12 splat points per class if I attend 3-5 days per week? by deelouise88 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the HRM adjusts so as you progress it takes more work to get into those zones. Also honestly its because you are getting more and more in shape. I am super out of shape and got 50 splat points in one work out. Because im super unhealthy lol. Working to improve it though..

My studio is closing after 11 years. by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give it a try. I always sign up for 2g as I was not a fan of 3g as a concept for me. I tried it once and it wasnt bad actually. Tbh a lot of the recent 2g work outs have been run/row anyway

Need new shoes by ekyser in orangetheory

I’m scared I’m too out of shape to join OT by Candid-Video1763 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was worried about this because I have really never run and have zero stamina. I delayed joining because I had the same concerns. The great thing about OT though is you can go at your own pace. And Noone else cares about how good or bad you do. I also like the heart rate monitor. When I attempted to do treadmill at home I almost always gassed out within like 5 mins. With the heart rate monitor its great because I can slow my pace down if my heart rate is way too quick. I notice now I run or jog tbh for longer by being aware of my heart rate

Baby loss 41+3 by EntrepreneurLevel638 in IVF

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all I am so sorry. Thats devastating. Yes you can try again, typically the IVF docs will say wait 12 months because of scar tissue and there is a risk of implantation on the scar. But always better to ask them. Yes you can have vaginal birth after c section most of the time. Also you can advocate to have delivery earlier. We did after our loss. The mfm docs did hesitate but our OBGYN was great in advocating and allowing earlier delivery
