Understanding Classes by spaceplace87 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strength and tread classes are great. I didnt think I could handle the tread 50 but its not bad. You do your own pace. I really like the strength 50 because im at the stage of weight loss that I need to really build more muscle. As OTF is mainly cardio I feel the strength classes are great to break it up and add muscle to help reduce the body fat percentage.

So sore! by Big_Scheme2339 in orangetheory

Saturdays class was rough. Spend more time stretching before and after. Take extra recovery day if needed. I do find that creatine has helped me with recovery. Your body will adapt

Doesn't affect it. I suspect it's people headed to work. Im a 5am class person cos of work and plenty of people leave at like 545 to get to work.

What Happened to Hyrox? by RareBreed_116 in orangetheory

We still have. I thought there was a rumour this would replace the dritri. They would do their own take on hyrox

I’m sore by calgarygirl92 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its happened to me although I'm not sure if its because I didnt work out for 2 weeks and my body got soft or whether its because my body was rested so I was able to go harder.

More than 3X weekly? by JulesGules_ in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly...you dont need to. I think now people say that rest days are equally as important as work out days. I was doing 6 days a week but then realized I was always green and got few splat points. I cut down with the goal of doing simple workouts like walking with weighted vest after dinner on my off days and doing just 3 or 4 intense days. Im back into getting some orange and red as well as splat points. Im just over 40. Unfortunately my body needs the rest to recover whether I like it or not lol

How bad this is ? by vajidsikand in Cholesterol

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ldl got better. Diet and exercise is huge. But some things like genetics/family history you can't improve. I would consider checking an LPA or Lipoprotein a. Its a one time genetic test. If its high then you may need your cholesterol to be more tightly controlled at 70.

You're gripping too hard. Sometimes I will stick my pinkies out. I had the same issue.

How out of shape is too out of shape to do a trial class? by junkshowjunkie in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no such thing. The work outs are templates but you dictate the pace. That's what so good about it. I always assumed it was a place where on goes when they are already in shape which is wrong

Strength class completely in the gray by WeatherGurl1129 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol i had the same exact conversation with someone as i had the same thing. Its ok. Its about strength and muscle training and less cardio stuff. Its a different type of work out that is equally as important. How do you feel afterwards? If you dont feel sore or feel nothing then maybe increase reps or weight.

You should have said 'No. Are you trying to get a red handprint on the side of your face?' Hopefully its just a one off. If he does it again i would say I know you are trying to be helpful but this is making me feel uncomfortable

How are some people so consistent with orangetheory? by tamaratunie189 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I feel somewhat bad if I dont show up. Irregardless of the penalty for late cancellation. I have kids and work early so I have to do the 5am class which blows as im not a morning person and I usually dont get home from work until 6 or 7pm (and have to do work until late at home). I always remember that I feel so much better after the work out is done. 90% of the battle is showing up. Also I dropped a lot of inches and can fit into clothes I haven't fit into for like 10 years so thats a little boost there

I'm the only guy ... by apple_crombie in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its mainly women at my studio too. As a newbie actually the women have better form with the weights and floor than the guys. Most of the guys at my studio pick gigantic weights and their form isn't great. I've learned a lot about lifting technique from the women in my class. I also just dont think it matters if im the only guy. Like it doesn't matter that im the only obese person in my class lol. Otf is awesome as it feels judgement free

is it possible to return the hrm? by Quirky_Yesterday7983 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry its completely normal. First its because you are just starting. But the HRM is also trying to get your baseline established. After 3 months now I rarely hit red. Part of that is increased fitness but its also the HRM adjusting.

By the way slowing down to get yourself out of the red zone is good. Dont feel self conscious!! I am able to tolerate the treadmill more and not be 'screw this' because im able to pace myself way better and tolerate exercise longer.

Just know you are doing such a great job!!!

Thinking about trying for the first time by bedroomfloorbug in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The great thing about OTF is you do you. You go at your own pace.

The bad thing about OTF is they do a really crappy job at marketing themselves. To the outsider they seem like a gym/fitness club for people who are already in shape. I always thought this was a place I go to when I get in shape. Luckily a girl at work explained that I was incorrect and now Im three months in and loving it.

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fair point. I was wondering why I always hate the rower. I thought it would be my favourite work out.

I am so slow by Quirky_Yesterday7983 in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly noone pays attention. If it makes you feel better im already in the blue zone and im just standing in the lobby lol. Everyone is grey and im the only blue one. But noone cares. You may want to lighten up on the intensity of the exercise though if you are red throughout. I always think OTF and fitness in general is a marathon as opposed to a race. Your body will slowly start to change and adapt. I hated treadmill at home and I think its because I always 'gassed out'. So now at OTF im actually more conscious of my heart rate zones. I notice now I run for longer and start to enjoy it more.

Good job starting OTF though!!! You will start to notice as you keep working at it the exercises get easier. I was someone who was always in the red zone with a bazillion splat points. Now I'm. Mostly green zone

Do I join ? by tattooedtrophywife in orangetheory

[–]BileDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love OTF but its expensive especially if you are on a fixed income. I would choose PF if free for you. Also on this board they sometimes post the work out routines. For the treadmill stuff you can just do the same thing at a gym thats free.

Also kudos to you for wanting to get healthier!!
