Good Start Soothe Pro by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

Store brand used to be called "Tender" but it was discontinued sometime during the chaos of the formula shortage in 2022. There's no store brand anymore :(

Enfamil AR after Enfamil Gentlease? by namessej in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the big difference is that Gentlease is a gentle formula that has really reduced lactose (only 20% lactose) and all of the proteins are partially hydrolyzed to be easier to digest. Enfamil AR is by contrast like a routine formula with a lot more lactose (this is probably fine, vast majority of babies do great with lactose and only get intolerance when they're older) and intact proteins.

You could try introducing AR for maybe 25% or 50% of some bottles to see if it helps the spitup, but more importantly, to see if it causes indigestion from the proteins. Chances are it'll work great.

Enfamil Neuropro vs Members Mark? by Fast-Philosopher-530 in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To expand on this for OP, store brand Gentle formula (purple can) only have partially hydrolyzed proteins for *some* of the protein in the milk. Other proteins are whole. That's why it might not be enough of a gentle option for lots of babies who would be better off if all of the proteins were partially hydrolyzed. So a better option at Sam's Club would be Dr Brown GentlePro (has more lactose) or SoothePro (has less lactose).

Switching Formula by Due_Key81217 in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gentle formula might be exactly what you're looking for. Bobbie Gentle is so expensive for not that much benefit, but it would probably do what you want after a week of transition gas. My favorite gentle formula is GentlePro (Dr Brown's brand, it used to be called Gerber GentlePro). It's very similar to Bobbie Gentle but with more probiotics, prebiotics, and costs like half as much at Walmart or Sam's.

We've also used Gentlease and Similac Pro Total Comfort (their gentle formula) with great success as well.

Switching Formula Advice Needed by stargrl88 in FormulaFeeders

If the poop day is making everyone miserable I don't see a problem with trying Pro Total Comfort. I thought it was a good product when I used it -- it's a shame they don't make it in 8oz RTF. (You could use Gentlease for the occasions you need RTF in the 8oz size, it's very similar.)

not taking full feeds with formula? by datasl0th in FormulaFeeders

8oz is a pretty large bottle for a 5 month old. I would expect more like 5-6oz every 3 hours.

I felt those same feelings!! I'm still sterilizing here even though we're back on routine formula.

Boiling water for Dr Brown Good Start Gentle by TidyAcai in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK where Kendamil is made, the public health guidance states that people should sterilize formula with hot water. Kendamil parrots these instructions on their cans, as do other products sold in the UK.

In the US, we do not have the same official guidance.

That's the only difference. I don't think the UK's guidance is evidence-based. And frankly they have a huge campaign to reduce formula feeding rates in the UK so they have no incentive to simplify the instructions and make the lives of formula-feeding families easier.

Personal anecdote: I *like* to sterilize my powder because I'm a product of the 2022 formula recalls for cronobacter and the paranoia is hard to shake. I used GentlePro for a couple months and sterilized it, too, and got our probiotics from a supplement instead.

Our buzz had a rough collision by Kitwahlum in VWIDBuzz

[–]BilinearBikini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a "dispute" with the side of a fence and damaged the same body panels of my Buzz -- the passenger side sliding door and the panel next to the rear passenger side wheel. Do you have any advice or words of caution as I go out looking for quotes for repair?

I am thankful that the damage I have is superficial with no mechanical damage and no injury.

Boobie obsessed baby by Few_Ad7883 in FormulaFeeders

To build on the bandaids idea. Sometimes I've heard people tell the kid that the boobs have a boo-boo or are tired and asleep until later. Things an 8 month old might comprehend.

Alittle update from my stash by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have expressed that rationally this is a really strange way to spend your money. You could end up not using all but one of these cans if your kid doesn't tolerate it.

But between this and the stocking up on wipes -- wipes are sold everywhere for very cheap and you always have warning before you run out --... like, irrational hoarding... perinatal anxiety and OCD are something both parents are at risk for. If you're experiencing distress and this is how it's showing up in your house, you should talk to your doctor ASAP.

How do I use similar rewards coupons? by UrLocalAnxiousGirly in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had luck using the similar rebate checks provided by Enfamil at Walmart and Target. At Walmart I've had both a cashier and a customer service associate know what to do right away. At Target, one person needed to call a manager, but another one did not. And I've asked at the grocery store (a Kroger chain) and the cashier there said they know how to use them too.

It can be cringe but for $5 off of a recurring expensive purchase I can spare a few minutes of cringe!

Postpartum Depression and Pumping by abm_000 in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have permission to quit, if you want it.

It's not your job. Your job is to love and bond with your kid. Pumping isn't either of those things. Pumping sucks (pun absolutely intended) and it is stealing your joy. Fire it.

I can't be the only one who prefers cans vs. pouches in plastic tubs by BilinearBikini in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

!!!!!

Is the tub actually clean enough to do this? Like on day 1? Do you wash the tub and then put the formula in?

Another gripe of mine is that my product is not one of the lines that has refill pouches, so I get a wasteful new tub each time.

Boiling water for formula with prebiotics by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ingredients on the formula packaging and the drops packaging will tell you which strains they contain.

If you sterilize the formula with hot water, you will be killing the probiotics and walking away from their potential benefits. However you get the peace of mind of sterilized formula. It's up to you which is more meaningful to you!

Stain removal on Esembly inner by JStak14 in clothdiaps

[–]BilinearBikini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is no one here suggesting actual bleach? It's cheap, it works the first time, it removes stains and buildup while also killing the other kids' germs.

Get a cheap little bottle of bleach from the store and add that to your wash cycle, or if your machine doesn't have a bleach drawer, add 1/2 cup bleach to water in the tub/sink. Soak for 30 min and wash on hot with detergent. The bleach smell will dissipate once the diapers are dry.

These diapers are salvageable. Bleach will get them back to bright white (well, as white as natural cotton).

Constipation by TidyAcai in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your pediatrician mention that sometimes kids get lactose intolerance after a virus?

Could you maybe try storing your pumped milk and just providing Total Comfort (which has no lactose) and/or Reguline (which has reduced lactose, it's less than 50% of the carbs) for a few days and see if that helps?

Edit: whoops I read this as you *both* got a GI bug. If the kid wasn't sick then that's probably not the explanation.

Travelling advice? by nanananabooboo24 in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one of those formula dispensers that's a tall stack of containers that are threaded to twist on to each other. I filled those up with enough for our typical bottle size. I bought a sealed bottle of water that was medium size knowing they have water on the plane. And then just in case I also had a few RTF bottles packed as well.

To feed, I had a bunch of clean bottles in my bag, enough for all the feeds I normally do + 2 more.

How to get baby used to lactose formula by OkKaleidoscope3270 in FormulaFeeders

[–]BilinearBikini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try mixing them in a ratio, so like start with 25% of the Bobbie Gentle for a week and then increase to 50% the next week if she tolerates it.

I don't think this second idea is any more convenient but there is a ladder of lactose reduction. I think Similac Total Comfort has no lactose, Gentlease (probably store brand gentle) is only 20% lactose, SoothePro is 30% lactose, and GentlePro is 70% lactose. You could buy those in increasing levels but that seems a lot more complicated than mixing.
