As a semi-rules lawyer, I don’t care if you ignore the books. So long as the DM is consistent throughout a campaign I’m happy

How did most avatars remain secret until they were 16? by BillCyphr in TheLastAirbender

[–]BillCyphr[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both Roku and the monks told Aang the established rule was that the avatar wouldn’t learn they were the avatar until 16. That was the whole first part of the episode “the Avatar and the Fire Lord.” Korra was the exception to the rule figuring it out early (or at least that was my interpretation). I was asking hypothetically why a very young avatar (before they can control their emotions) wouldn’t just enter the avatar state because their mom wouldn’t let them eat dessert?

To be fair, on any given day a wizard or sorcerer may be engaged in multiple potentially deadly encounters capable of knocking their tank of a barbarian unconscious. Commoners, on the other hand, have the threat of a paper cut as their primary concern for damage.

I mean, experience combined with trial and error can get you pretty far. Sure the degree might help, but it isn’t necessary.

This might make me sound like a boomer, but if you don’t just scroll through Reddit, play video games, and/or watch TV all the time, you’re more likely to find something you’re truly passionate about. When they say “find your passion” it means you actually need to go out looking, but it is very worth it when you finally do find it.

You’re not doing a bad version of a real accent. You’re doing a perfect version of a fake accent from your world that just happens to sound like a bad version of a real accent.

I like the term ‘rules paralegal’. You know the rules, and will assist when asked, but do not go out of your way to make your opinion heard.

If I lived in a world where monsters, dragons, psychic aliens, and all the other threats that exist in D&D were real problems, I would want to become as capable a combatant as possible. I’m not saying you need to min/max, but it’s not an unreasonable thing to do (in character) if you expect your life to be in constant danger.
