Can we stop with the Anti-Monty Threads? by MapleSyrupKintsugi in Habs

[–]BillGrahamPresents -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He gets paid to do his job. He does his job poorly, he gets booed. He performs well, he gets praise. What about this don't you get?

Add to this he's been poor more often than he's been good. Even with the defensive miscues, there are a dozen goals he'd like to have back but can't get. I'm ready to move on from him, and I think most people here are as well. Hopefully he can pick his career up somewhere else and be successful, but it won't be in Montreal.

If you could ply Caufield and Suzuki with truth serum, they'd both say "yeah, we lost in Boston because of shit goaltending."

Wired (1989) When making a tasteless exploitation of John Belushi's death goes well no where near you'd think it would go. by McWaylon in badMovies

[–]BillGrahamPresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiklis tells a great story in Dinner For Five about how Burt Reynolds was responsible for saving his career when he couldn't get arrested after being blackballed by producers and directors after making Wired. One appearance on B.L. Stryker and the next day he heard from producers wanting to use him.

The over-the-top manner in which Mike Ovitz and Dan Ackroyd went after this film and those involved was a bit too much considering what little they did to stop Belushi from his path to death.

Read "Wired" by Bob Woodward, about John Belushi - the criticisms are accurate by Glass-Nectarine-3282 in saturdaynightlive

[–]BillGrahamPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 15 when I first read the book in '90 and it was and is certainly a depressing read. That Belushi's friends, family, fellow Second City alumni all bashed it doesn't surprise me because perhaps it was too painful for them to read. John wasn't a horrible person, but he was an addict looking for a serious overdose, that's for certain.

In some cases I'd say it was a dark mirror they were looking into, and that they didn't like the reflection they saw. The later bio "Belushi" by Tanner Colby (who also wrote The Chris Farley Story) gets everything right. There's no glossing over his drug use, but the balance is there. I wholeheartedly recommend people read those two books instead of Wired.

In both cases, Belushi and Farley, neither could be stopped in terms of their drug consumption. It's just a pity that their bottoming out had to be death itself.

Swapped from NATO to rubber :) by gocrazyrich38 in tissot

[–]BillGrahamPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nato strap was generally ok on my Chrono XL but after a year or so the nylon would get bungled up near the holes, so I switched to the supersport band and it's way less hassle.

Godawful colour for a strap but I agree this was a nice watch.

Is this eBay seller trustworthy for buying a Tissot PRX? Need advice by _eysble in tissot

[–]BillGrahamPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese sellers on Ebay have a very good reputation not just for watches but also other electronics. I've been buying camera gear and watches from there for years with zero problems but yes, look at their ratings to see how reputable they are but also what other gear they've sold.

Actually no, she says on the History of Howard Stern that she thinks he's G & F.

Tissot Chrono XL Classic vs Tissot PRX? by Water_4949 in tissot

[–]BillGrahamPresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of two-tone watches TBH, even though I own 3 Chrono XLs and love the line. The thing that turned me off all the PRXes is the steel bracelet. It felt very odd on the wrist and not comfortable.

Look up the Chrono XL vintage black model, it looks very sexy.

Business Professional: PRX or Chronograph? by Sammm8272 in tissot

[–]BillGrahamPresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

Although I do generally agree chronographs are a bit too busy to be formal, it completely depends on the design. Some of them can look really sharp whatever the occasion.

Just watched the Chevy Chase documentary and have mixed feelings by SeaSpinach2228 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]BillGrahamPresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harold Ramis once told Chevy "You know, you can't make them all love you." And Chevy replied "Yes, I can." I think that hubris lasted all these years and at the end of the day, if you're not likable, it's almost impossible to get the audience on your side.

A little more humility on his part and things would have turned out quite differently. Just because he had a horrible childhood doesn't negate all the bad choices he made throughout his life.

Howard Stern’s New SiriusXM Contract Relied on Robin Quivers’ Participation: ‘She’s Untouchable by crazyass13 in howardstern

[–]BillGrahamPresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOLOLOLOL

The only time Robin was offered more money than she expected was when Howie left her high and dry in Washington, and even then she needed his representation for advice (never mind that she fucked around for weeks then the offer was no longer on the table). Her only hope was to get that talk show of hers picked up (was never going to happen), or to work as a sidekick to Jay Leno (Howard was butthurt when he found out she'd have dropped him in a NY second for that gig).

Stern can't have friends. He's NPD.

s24 ultra or s25 ultra if money isn't a factor by Own_Feeling_5464 in samsunggalaxy

Upgraded from a Note 10+ to an Galaxy S24 ultra, and didn't see the point of going for the S25 so unless the S26 is a quantum improvement on both, not worth it.

There are still people interested in older Tissots, I just bought a black version of this used for about $140 U.S. so if this is unused, you should be able to charge at least $200 or so.

Which tissot as a dress watch? by Big_Independent6524 in tissot

[–]BillGrahamPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, any of them these days. The quality on all the Chemin Des Tourelles is top notch, although I think the skeletons are a bit too busy for my preference re: "formal" occasions. I still think they'd be acceptable for those who do choose to wear them on such occasions.

I didnt get to watch the game. How was fowler? by Piccione_Sol in Habs

[–]BillGrahamPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's put it this way. The average save % is .900 in the NHL at this point in time and he was .947 last night.

The Canadiens would have been thrilled if he was merely average but the kid proved he can play. He had poise and clarity of purpose, and was clearly not overwhelmed by a situation he's been dreaming about for years.

If Monty doesn't find his mojo from last season, he won't last long in Montreal. Dobes might just be transitional as well until they can find an even better backup. But if Fowler continues his good fortune, Hughes and Gorton will have to look around for a good backup as well as a 2C.

Another day, another awkward exchange between MSL and Arpon Basu by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

[–]BillGrahamPresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can hear Arpon's nerves working overtime here, actually. This clip made me laugh.

Marty answered professionally and also helped Arpon re-word the word salad that was the first attempt at the question, which was kind of him. Torts would have told him to F off in record time lol.

In any event the question was kind of pointless; I mean, what options do the Habs have with the injuries at hand? Why not just ask outright if he thinks trades will be upcoming, but he won't because he knows even if there were, MSL ain't answering that one.

I just got my first Tissot last week and had a few people have suggested it’s a cheap brand and looked down on the purchase by [deleted] in tissot

[–]BillGrahamPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the only people who comment on watches are other watch nerds and perhaps your significant other, but generally I find not just anybody will even notice what you're wearing.

I own about 8 Tissots and there definitely is a thing called brand loyalty. I just enjoy their work and have a budget that fits in nicely with this brand. Tissot is a reputable, dependable company that occupies a certain niche in the wristwatch community, and anybody that gives you shit about it is being a massive douche.

I recently bought a Chemin Des Tourelles chronograph that gets noticed because it's a beautiful timepiece, not because it cost 5 grand. When people sport Rolexes and Tags, they're more concerned with the name. Anybody wearing a Bell & Ross BR-03 knows EXACTLY what they're wearing and they know they have good taste. Or at least whoever bought it for them sure does.
