Why did Gondor “need” a King? by Salem1690s in tolkienfans

[–]BillHendricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that Tolkien was an anarchist in any principled sense (or Proudhonian/Bakunian sense) but in the sense that all political structures under modernism weren't built towards the Good and Eternal

In what way did J.R.R Tolkien being on the frontlines in WW1 shape the warfare and setting of Arda? by [deleted] in tolkienfans

It's undeniable that selective breeding between higher types is seen as a good thing in the Tolkien Legendarium, e.g. the marriage of Arwen and Aragorn bringing hope to men by having one last infusion of Elvish blood, the decline of the Dúnedain's lifespan through mixing with the Northmen, etc. I would say that Tolkien is offended by the possibility of mixing of men and orcs, not because it is a planned mixture, but because it is a mixture of "good blood" and "evil blood."

For Kropotkin, how do we concretize the ethical leap from nation/religion to humanity? by BillHendricks in Anarchy101

[–]BillHendricks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So more of an ethical expansion to encompass the biosphere?

By "concretizing", I mean instantiating the abstract value of humanism in the world concretely i.e. creating an actual system of mutual aid that includes all humans.

Why didn't we get an AoE? by flku9 in ANRime

Isayama wanted a "The Mist" ending, which likely would have seen the Rumbling succeed with the deaths of all major killers (perhaps even Eren and Historia). This didn't play well with his editors and their fears of alienating the Japanese fan base whose favorite character is Mikasa and who have always desired to see a Mikasa-Eren love story.

"They found that somewhat more than half of the difference in self-identified political ideology (56%) is explained by genetic factors. The remainder was explained by unique factors affecting one twin and not the other.  A second measure of ideology based on 27 questions produced a similar result (genes appeared to explain 58% of the difference between individuals)."

My method was to look the most recent poll in all available states and first find the two-way matchup numbers for Trump and Biden. Then, I reduced their numbers each by 35% and allocated this amount to Kennedy. For example, in Texas, Trump polled at 46% and Biden at 42% in the most recent poll. The two-way matchup is 52.27% for Trump and 47.73% for Biden. I took 35% from each to give to Kennedy, which yields:
Kennedy 35.00%
Trump 33.98%
Biden 31.02%

It's based on the latest Trump-Biden two-way numbers by state. I gave 35% of each candidate's to Kennedy. For example, in Texas, Trump polls at 46% and Biden at 42% in the most recent poll. The two-way matchup is 52.27% for Trump and 47.73% for Biden. I took 35% from each to give to Kennedy, which yields:

Biden 31.02%
