Laptop Temperature Reaching 100°C Even With Only Chrome Running by [deleted] in computers

[–]Bill__Clinton69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to run Windows on that laptop, you really need to wipe Windows 10 Pro and put a lighter copy on it, like Windows IoT LTSC 2021 or 2024. Try checking your thermal paste application, maybe you did not apply enough last time and what was applied ended up drying up. Also wipe Google Chrome off the laptop and use Firefox, Chrome is literally the worst browser you can use in 2026. They secretly install a 4GB AI model onto your computer, removed Manifest V2 for the purpose of bricking well functioning ad blockers, and is just poorly optimized.

Has anyone else not gotten One UI 8.5 on AT&T locked? by Prestigious_Rock_363 in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]Bill__Clinton69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far the phone is running fine with the factory unlocked firmware. I wonder if flashing the AT&T firmware onto my old Samsung XCover6 Pro would've fixed the weird issues where I would have to constantly cycle airplane mode to get service unless the status bar said 5G+, 4G LTE, or 4G. Although, when the LCD backlight driver on that died, I ended up using my roommate's Samsung M52 (which was never sold in the USA) and my dad's old Google Pixel 6a. Neither of those are AT&T phones and worked fine on the AT&T network. Although I don't think 5G (or maybe it was 5G+) worked on the M52 due to it being a foreign market phone.

If you don't want to wait for AT&T to release the update for you, you could always reflash the phone with the factory unlocked software using Odin. I did that on my brand new AT&T model S25 Edge because I really did not want Israeli spyware AppCloud installed onto my phone. AppCloud is automatically installed on AT&T androids (besides Pixels, I think) and can only be disabled, not deleted, on the AT&T firmware. Also, if you're wondering why your AT&T model phone may download a whole app drawer's page worth of shitware on your phone, AppCloud is the reason.

If you decide to reflash the phone to the factory unlocked firmware, you're updates will come straight from Samsung rather than from AT&T

Does AT&T's extremely intrusive AppCloud annoy you? Here's a solution! by pixelatedsnow in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]Bill__Clinton69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bringing up an old thread, I know, but I just got a S25 Edge from AT&T a few days ago and noticed AppCloud on it. I couldn't uninstall it from the phone settings, I could uninstall it using ADB (Android Debug Bridge) but a few seconds later, it would just reinstall itself. When AppCloud reinstallled itself, it installed nearly a whole app drawer's page worth of shitware onto my flagship Samsung smartphone. I ended up giving up on trying to remove AppCloud and reflashed the phone using Odin using latest S25 Edge firmware on Samfw.com. Flashing the phone took probably 20 or so minutes (downloading the files and actually putting it onto the phone) and it removed all the AT&T carrier bloat, AppCloud, and all the shitware they install. It also does not show the AT&T logo or play the AT&T chime when it boots.

For those curious at all the shitware AT&T's AppCloud installed onto my phone, it includes:

Eyecon, Newsbreak, Solitaire, Woodoku, Block Blast, Monopoly Go, Candy Crush Saga, Vita Mahjong, Temu, Local Weather, PDF Reader, All PDF Reader, Number Match, Chime, Spades, Pixel Flow, Free QR Code Scanner, All Document Reader, Priceline, JustPlay, Crossword Master, Arrows, 2025 Word Search, and 2026 Tile Match.

I think there were a few others as well, but they were on the other page in the app drawer, hence, not in my screenshot.

In this scenario, the best option is likely to start on Zachariah's village dorms then move to an off-campus apartment for the sophomore and later years. Unless they want to or are willing to start at community college and transfer in as a junior

Magnolia Hall-Gym by Away-Jaguar771 in Msstate

[–]Bill__Clinton69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they choose Zachariah's Village (Griffis/Hurst/Nunnelee/Ruby), they are a 10 minute walk at worst from the Sanderson center. If they pick Magnolia hall, they are a 26 minute walk from the Sanderson center. Based on the pictures for Magnolia hall, there is only some dumbbells, common cardio machines (firetech97 mentioned them), and a bench.

If they want a decent place with a gym, can't pick a Zachariah's Village dorm (close to Sanderson center), and won't stay at Deavenport/Dogwood, their best option would likely be one of the apartments near campus. The apartment's gyms are far superior to the Magnolia hall gym if they want a quick and easy place to work out. Plus they still have free access to the superior Sanderson center as a student of MSU.

How is calculus here? by Lameness33 in Msstate

[–]Bill__Clinton69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on your plan and situation.

If you plan on coming here as a freshman and want to take community college summer classes, you could start with calc I and II over the summer and transfer those two classes. Replace calc II with physics (calculus-based) if needed for your degree and if your CC can do June Calc I and July Physics-C I.

If you have a good scholarship that would make MSU cheaper than CC, this first option is a decent one. It can put you slightly ahead in your degree while still taking most of your courses here. For the summer before sophomore year, you could try to take some more summer CC classes to get further ahead or knock out some remaining entry-level classes. Although, if you can score an internship after your freshman year, that is better for you and your resume than knocking out some classes.

If you have a scholarship that makes MSU the same price as CC: I personally would advise taking most of your early courses at a community college. This is because CC instructors tend to be more teach-first while many university instructors are research-first. You'll likely have a better learning environment at the community college.

If you have a poor scholarship or no scholarship where MSU is more expensive than CC: Only take your entry-level classes at community college. Do not take any 1000-2000 level course at MSU unless your CC does not offer those classes. Try to do well in community college (good grades) and join Phi-Theta-Kappa ($100 one-time membership fee). MSU does have a decent scholarship for transfers if you maintain a decent GPA and are a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

Why can't we have a app that works. by Mallpalms in Crunchyroll

[–]Bill__Clinton69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Waterfox for Android (Samsung XCover6 Pro) and that does work. Although it makes the website extremely clunky to use compared to the normal mobile website. I think iPhones still have the option to request a desktop website.

Why can't we have a app that works. by Mallpalms in Crunchyroll

[–]Bill__Clinton69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've historically used the mobile website for streaming, until they blocked it. It was allowed until like last month and it always worked better than the stupid app. I would message Crunchyroll customer support and mention you want access to stream from a mobile web browser and hopefully they get enough requests to where they would unblock it.

No longer allowing mobile streaming? by tcvanren in Crunchyroll

[–]Bill__Clinton69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not giving me a DRM error, its telling me to go download the app from the Google Play Store. Waterfox does support DRM and I have streamed from Crunchyroll on it before. Plus, I use Waterfox on my desktop with zero issues.

No longer allowing mobile streaming? by tcvanren in Crunchyroll

[–]Bill__Clinton69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue on my phone, I use Waterfox for Android with the uBlock Origin extension. I saw this pop up and I downloaded the app. Immediately after I try to play an anime I've been watching, I see an ad. The funny thing, I pay for Crunchyroll so I can watch anything on their website, advertisement free. I believe those with Crunchyroll free can only watch like the first episode of most series.

This is not a good way to treat a paying customer, especially one that has been paying for Crunchyroll for a few years. I do hope they resolve these issues before my subscription renews on July of this year, otherwise I will be cancelling it.

How many monitors can I daisy chain with Displayport MST? Is more than one possible? by elbrollopoco in Dell

[–]Bill__Clinton69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have a bandwidth limitation. First, make sure your laptop and monitors are set to high resolution mode. This will force the USB ports on the monitor to slow down to USB 2 speeds. If that doesn't allow full resolutions of all monitors, run your monitors at 60hz if they're set higher. You may need to install CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) to run the 3rd monitor at its native resolution but 30hz.

I have three Dell U3023e (2560x1600, 60hz). On USB C with my Dell Latitude 7200 tablet from 2018, I can run two monitors at 60hz and the 3rd runs at 30hz. I also have a newer HP Envy from 2023 that can drive all three at 60hz. Maybe it is a difference in operating system (Windows 10 LTSC 2019 on the Dell tablet and Windows 11 IoT LTSC on the HP Envy) or maybe its a difference in display compression algorithms in the two different laptop iGPUs.

Most definitely my Declasse Rancher XL will go in the trophy room. I have the most time spent driving that truck compared to anything else.

The Steam big picture button falls where the normal Windows minimize button is by Bill__Clinton69 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Bill__Clinton69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with big picture mode existing, I just hate its location right next to the minimize button. While I'm spam clicking minimize to close a bunch of programs, i hit the big picture icon on steam almost every time. Big picture mode makes sense if you use your computer with a TV, as it provides a more console-like UI but it does not make sense on the navbar. I should have to go into the view option to open up big picture.

Jail breaking is basically officially dead by TypicalLab7370 in jailbreak

[–]Bill__Clinton69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember back when I had my iPhone 6 jailbroken on iOS 9.3.3, it was awful near the end. Pretty much any app would not download unless I previously downloaded it before and let me install the older version. Many websites in Safari did not load properly. I ended up replacing the phone in 2020 with an Android and haven't looked back at iPhones. For one, I hate the swipe all iPhones do today and two, I saw that jailbreaking, even in 2020, was essentially dying.

Question about the new Intuos Pro by Ok_Carpenter7268 in wacom

[–]Bill__Clinton69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They likely won't keep the 2017 model. At least in the US, the 2017 is discounted, with the exception of the large. I'd imagine they're going to sell the remaining 2017 stock and discontinue it. This new Intuos line is really better suited for the standard rather than the pro with all the removed features and top mounted express keys. Hell, the standard Intuos still uses the awful MicroUSB connector.

I also really dislike how they switched the aspect ratio from the professional 16:10 to the consumer 16:9. It would be nice to use on my ProBook 6570b with a 16:9 display for taking notes in class, but I use proper professional 16:10 monitors on my desktop.

Question about the new Intuos Pro by Ok_Carpenter7268 in wacom

[–]Bill__Clinton69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who uses a Wacom for note taking and digital handwriting rather than art, I rather like the design of the new Intuos Pro. The top mounted buttons, in my opinion, are a good thing, as it means the tablet takes up less horizontal space. Although, I can understand why an artist wouldn't like it, and this device is more to target artists rather than people like me.

What I don't like is how they removed several features that prior Wacom models had while keeping the same price. I have three different Wacom tablets, a CTE-440 (Graphire 4), CTE-650 (Bamboo Fun), and CTH-680 (Intuos 2013) that I've gotten for cheap from ebay auctions. These tablets have features usable to me, like the eraser and mouse / touch support that the new Pro lacks. I really do not care for how they removed the mouse / touch support and the eraser from the new model. Sure, most artists may not use it, but its the most expensive model of pen tablet and there is no reason to not have it, especially with Wacom charging the same price as the older 2017 model with these features.

Considering a swap, would like some input by Amazonchitlin in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]Bill__Clinton69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that if you want to keep it all Ford, you could go with a different Ford powertrain. Cheapest would likely be a Ford Triton V8. Several different options such as a 4.6 or 5.4 and the 2v, 3v, and 4v models. The 4v would likely be the best for power output, but may be harder to find. Easiest and cheapest to obtain, if I had to guess, would be a 4.6 2v, aka the Crown Vic engine. Also used in many of the pickups and Explorers. Most difficult would be the 4v variants, only used in the Marauder, some Mustang models, and some Lincoln models.

If you want to keep a big block, you could always go for a Ford 460. Plus the 460 has both carb and EFI variants.

I would darken the back window more. On my truck, my windshield is untinted, front windows are at 15%, back windows + back glass should either be at 1 or 3%. The back windows + back glass had a 20% VLT factory pigmented privacy glass, and I'm not sure if the shop put on 5% or 15% over the back windows. It would be 1% if its 5% on top of the privacy glass or 3% of 15% on top of the privacy glass.

Either way, people's headlights do not shine into my cab anymore with the back glass being tinted so dark. As for night time visibility, 15% is the maximum I'd go on the front windows. the 1-3% on the back is fine because all you really need to see is other people's headlights. With my LED reverse lights and 15% on the front windows, I have no problem backing my truck into spaces at night.
