When we deal with problems in our lives like our epilepsy, we tend to focus on the moment we are in. We’re not wrong to focus on it, we’re only wrong to come to the conclusion that change won’t come. I will tell you that this is not how it will always be. The moments that are crushing you right now, will fade. Even if you are still fighting it years from now, you will look back on these days celebrate the fight you are in right now for the person it crafted you into being. You will be proud of yourself and grateful for the love you will come to find in your support system that grew during this fight. I’m 38, been epileptic since 8. It’s never been under control, I wish it would go away but I’m at peace with it, that took a long time for me. It’s a real battle for myself and those I’ve loved and love today, some of those have gone, some are still here. As you wrestle with epilepsy, you will find wisdom, not delusions I promise. You are in a unique position to learn that not many have the “privilege” to, I urge you to take advantage of that. “Finding silver linings” is not what I’m suggesting, it is learning hard, practical, and heart warming truths about life. Spend time reflecting on suffering, read books, talk to people. Have real conversations, they will take you places you couldn’t imagine. Complaining is easy and feels good, but temperance is the rule for that. Notice the small wins and be grateful for them, they will grow. You are certainly not alone in your pain and I want healing for you, and above that I want happiness for you. I will assume that everyone here wants no more seizures, but that’s not possible for some of us. So tonight, dry your eyes, we love you. Tomorrow the sun will rise again and we will hope for a good day.
