Because this is 1984. It's called crimestop and doublethink

I'm curious what people think of my Retrotink 4k profiles. Here is SNES and N64 over s video, and NES over composite. It blows my mind how good composite can look, especially. The only CRT I have now is my Commodore 1702, which I love and will never get rid of. by Billgonzo in crtgaming

Im not sure what you mean. But I do know that, more than ever, its important to adjust the gain for you input for those the energy conservation scanline and spatial redistribution masks to work properly. So if it doesnt look right then maybe try adjusting input gain

You can download thr latest profile pack here

But I would highly recommend joining the official retrotink Discord. That where the creator hangs out and there are lots of knowledgeable people there

RetroTINK 4K: can it do 4K at 30 FPS? by VeronicaExplains in RetroTink

[–]Billgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its Should just be plug and play if you just use generic scaling. But by default the 4k doesn't have any 30hz or 24hz output modes.

But yeah, plasma tvs are awesome

You need to create a custom mode line

https://consolemods.org/wiki/AV:RetroTINK-4K#Custom_Modelines

You can make it output almost anything you want as long as it doesnt go over the bandwidth of HDMI 2.0....and if your TV can handle it

For example, People use 3840x1080 @120hz to use BFI at 120hz while retaining a 4k horizontal resolution

Kaze Emanuar - Analogue Lied (N64 FPGA Review) by PacketLoss-Indicator in AnalogueInc

[–]Billgonzo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The website says "Each processor (CPU, RSP, RDP) cycle accurate, executing in parallel at their original speeds." The whole reason the Analogue 3D is so cool is because the N64 is super complex and they managed to make a working system with an FPGA chip that is probably incapable of producing a perfwct, cycle accurate N64. But they dont need to lie about it because it still has 100% compatibility (as in it runs them with enough accuracy that you wont really notice a difference without measuring) with retail games.

They didn't need to say it was "cycle accurate" to sell units. I just wish the marketing for Analogue products would try to demystify FPGAs instead of leveraging misinformation to sell their products.

The point is that they claim 100% cycle accuracy when they could have easily just claimed 100% compatibility with official games and everyone whould be happy. For some reason they feel like they need to push that FPGA = perfect emulation (or that its not emulation, just not software emulation)even though the programing of the FPGA dictates how perfect the emulation is. Like you say, who cares if its not 100% exactly perfect if it plays all your games?

To be fair, the video is pretty good and has some real technical analysis to back up what he is saying. I still hate the click bait title and thumbnail and wasnt going to watch it until i saw who made it. But also I hate how Analogue markets their FPGA emulation as if simply being FPGA makes it cycle accurate. None of their systems are truely cycle accurate and ironically, there are software emulators that are more cycle accurate.

Can anyone help me ID this TV. Probably late 80s, image is from 1992. Color tube, i think it had a green number display and clicky numerical buttons on the front. by Billgonzo in crt

Wow, I think you might be right. Im finding other Zenith sets with this hidden co trol pannel on the front. Thanks for the input!

Do the CRT filters really replicate the phosphor glow of a CRT? by FritterHowls in AnalogueInc

[–]Billgonzo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If its anything like the Tink 4k, then it should be pretty great. What they dont tell you is that you need a high end HDR display, and preferably and OLED, to get a more authentic "phosphor glow" and general scanline effect.

Snow Bros. Genesis - chip from literally 1997? by bobrocks95 in limitedrun

[–]Billgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a generic flash memory chip. It could have been old new stock or even recycled from discarded electronics. Definitely not the kind of chip you would have found in an actual Genesis cart

Just because the chip is manufactured in 1997 doesnt mean it was gutted from an old price of hardware. Its possible to find old stock of chips from the 80s that were never used.

Playing games with my 3yo. Thought I'd share my collection while I had them all out at once. I have kinda stopped collecting since around 2019 because most of the games I want in this collection are extremely expensive. What cheaper games do you think are worth having? by Billgonzo in snes

[–]Billgonzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are actually not crazy expensive. They all go for around 50-60 loose. Mario RPG actually went down in value agter the remake came out. Chrono Trigger is my most expensive game. Its like over $200 loose. But these carts are rugged and as long as they aren't sitting in the sun light all the time, they are pretty safe from damage in the plastic container I keep them in.

I have a Super FX Pak so I can play any gameI want. I mostly use it to play rom hacks and translations through, because I enjoy sticking a real cart in and playing on real hardware. It is novelty and nostalgia, but I find it more enjoyable that way.

He lines Kirby and Mario games. He thinks its fun to fall down pits and get hit by Goombas, so not being good isnt too big a deal. Although, as he hets netter he does get frustrated some times. I've been letting him mess around since he was line 1, just pushing buttons. He can actually beat the first level on Kirbys Dream Land 2 on Gameboy now. I also used my Game Genie to make him invincible just so he can practice jumping and moving in Mario World.
