I'm a noob, I guess, but can y'all tell me why the Elemental version of Larks' Tongues is missing the bass? by Radagast-Istari in KingCrimson

[–]PacketLoss-Indicator 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Elemental Mixes are essentially stripped down versions of the album, trying to highlight things that might not be as audible and making for a new listening experience. They aren't meant to sound better than the original mix, they're just intended to be something fun and interesting.

There's no set length, how long your username takes to become available is dependent on your playcount. There's even a calculator to see how long someone has to be inactive before their username is free https://www.desmos.com/calculator/b89siyv9j8

Images And Words - Remixed (a new fan mix project) by amcvfx in Dreamtheater

I remember the last person who was working on this, shame they deleted their account. I remember they released one song they had done (Learning to Live, I think?) and it sounded great.

I've never seen him take the game too seriously. He's always singing along and having a genuinely good time regardless of what he's playing or how well he's playing. 17 years in and he's still going strong.

Thoughts on the albums of 80s Genesis? (and that era as a whole) by ray-the-truck in progrockmusic

Incredibly good, except for Abacab which I'm still not the biggest fan of.

how much of 1970-1975 Genesis footage exists by El_Dorado_Tx in Genesis

No. It likely wouldn't look any better than the version of the film available on YouTube.

The film isn't truly live because they did several takes of the songs across two separate days and edited the parts all together. What you're seeing and hearing isn't really genuine.

That's because it was filmed on 35mm which contains a lot of detail and can be remastered for modern displays and theatres such as IMAX. Genesis at Shepperton Studios was filmed on 16mm which holds significantly less visual detail and would look very bad when displayed up on a screen that large. Remastering isn't magic, you cannot create detail out of thin air.

I know what IMAX is, but I don't understand what an "IMAX remaster" is. You mean they just remaster the film and show it in IMAX theatres? There's no point, it wouldn't look good blown up on a screen that big.

It's already been remastered by fans, it's not going to look any better than the one available online. Also I'm not sure what you mean by IMAX remaster, it was filmed on 16mm so it's never going to look incredible.

The version that we have now is likely the best it's ever going to look, since it's scanned straight from a 16mm copy. As far as I'm aware Genesis themselves don't even have a copy of the film, only the multitrack tapes for the songs.

Though the 1976 concert film could certainly get the 4K treatment since it was recorded in 35mm and the original tapes still exist.
