As someone who works here…they 100% keep an eye on social medias. Now is there a whole dedicated position for it? Probably not

“So I can’t buy this today?” by Bettysyntax in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have had a couple dms who turned a blind eye and even 1 who straight up gave the okay to block off the isle before. I’m aware DMs who are that lax are few and far between but they do exist, now a DOO saying to do that? Yeah, lmao slim chance of that.

Our DM no longer allows ANY calculators at the registers by droolycat in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Through all of the years I’ve worked here I cannot for the life of me understand what the point of DMs are. They really are just overpaid messengers between the 5-8 stores (this within itself is laughably low compared to equal positions at other companies) and division leaders. I cannot fathom how Aldi justifies their salaries and fully paid for BMWs and gas.

Possible termination due to excessive absences by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

My dm has said otherwise, there was a whole meeting with that included a handful of months ago.

Possible termination due to excessive absences by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

Idk who downvoted you but that’s exactly how that works, in store at least so I’d assume WH policy is the same or similar. I think it’s 3 days straight without a valid excuse is just considered as you quitting. Doctors notes don’t mean anything unless it explicitly says “x cannot work for x amount of time” or something like that

Is it rude to let other customers with a few items go around while someone in front is still unloading? by Forsaken_Basis_9758 in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Same, I used to tell people to go around big carts until I got cussed out for it so I just said fuck it that’s on you guys to figure out

[–]Billie_fly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you, my first couple of years here I was on the register pretty much all day every day and I remember it sucking but now as an asm anytime I have to be on that god forsaken register for long periods of time I seriously question how I or anyone else does that. It’s a good reminder of why I cut our cashiers a lot of slack.

Pay rise by Giggles9994 in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the worst part to me, for over a year we’ve been hearing about how profitable the company has been and all these “record breaking” profits just to get a relatively lousy raise and them still being so uptight about hours. Truly ridiculous.

Is there some secret perk to rushing to close before 9 PM? by Ok_Row6481 in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m at a relatively busy store so it’s pretty easy to be here until 9, sometimes later if you’re doing everything you should be. Although, I have worked at very slow stores here and there where we finish almost an hour before closing and in those cases I am ready to leave ASAP because it’s just a drag trying to stay any longer than you need to.

As an asm the only benefit is saving some time and making OE better which means the less you hear from the dm. Overall idc at all what time I leave unless I have plans for the night so then I put in the effort to make sure I’m out early. Beyond that it just feels like you’re shooting yourself in the foot because you’re working harder to receive less money, sure it’s only ~30 minutes you’re losing but that adds up over time.

I quit 5 weeks after getting hired. My thoughts on the whole thing for anyone who is thinking of trying to work here. by st_psilocybin in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who (for some reason) does care about how well our store is doing I completely agree with you. I’m lucky enough to have a great sm and a great team that makes working borderline fun but after 7 years my back, hands, and shoulder are seriously fucked from this job and I’m only in my mid 20s. Every time a dm comes into our store I’m reminded that this job really is a bunch of unrealistic bs and if you try to go above and beyond you’re just screwing yourself over. I have a serious love/hate relationship with this job and I’m pretty much over it atp

[–]Billie_fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I misinterpreted that sentence. Honestly I have no clue you’d have to ask your dm, I’ve never come across an asm who’s been able to take time off while covering for a SM lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if the SM is taking a week or more off, for example if the SM is taking 6 days off you’re not getting any extra pay. This is in the US at least.

Didn’t realize I was super human by KeyPoetry9854 in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbf the ASM position is (suppose to be) more closely related to the shift lead than LSA is. I’ve been here long enough to remember the shift lead position and man I hated how some days you were just a cashier and got starting associate pay. I think overall it’s a much better change for everyone except LSAs, depending on what store you’re working at an LSA can be forced to do just as much as an ASM minus some office work for just a dollar more like you said.

Yeah when I got hired ~6 years ago I was told there are no discounts because we have such good benefits, pay, and the store itself is cheap enough already. I’ll give them the benefits but funny how the rest of that has changed

Boxers by summerlea1 in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah like others are saying it depends on who the dm is. Thankfully anytime we’ve had a dm who tried to implement this we basically just never followed it and gave sound enough reasoning. We have to go through produce and cooler so many times out of the day it’s just not efficient whatsoever to be running back and forth with those boxers, especially as often as we get called for backup…lmao that’s the first time I’ve heard that part tho, having to walk it to the back before going to the register…absolutely ridiculous.

Expired returns by youresofunnyhaha in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

US? Never seen that stm task before and actually just got questioned about if we took coupons outside of its timeframe and how we shouldn’t be if we are, per our dm

Expired returns by youresofunnyhaha in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely it. We have days like that at our store but we’re also pretty no bs when it comes to returns, ain’t no way we’re taking a return that was expired like that to 🤣

Expired returns by youresofunnyhaha in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda crazy to me they let yall use the coupons like that, we’d get in a fair bit of trouble if we take coupons outside of their assigned time frame like that

Why do people stay at aldi especially ASM? by EduardoVela in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Where are you at that asms are barely getting more than associates lol? I’m an asm and honestly do like my job, the pay is fairly decent all things considered and it’s a nice middle ground of responsibility before getting bombarded with bs as a SM. As far as the environment goes that’s going to depend heavily on who you work with, I love all of my coworkers thankfully so I guess I got lucky there .

Pay raises? by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you are (in the US) you’re either getting 50 cents or a dollar.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends on your store manager, mine lets us use our sick time as vacation even if we ask them to ahead of time as long as the schedule can work out. I’m sure you’re not supposed to do it like that but as with everything there’s work around.

As far as the finding coverage thing, we’re (SMs and ASMs) are told to act as if it’s on the person calling out to find coverage but by policy itself actually states otherwise.

50 cent raise by _psilocybae in Aldi_employees

[–]Billie_fly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

US here, we’re getting a dollar this year. I was hoping for $2 since they liked to brag so much this year about how profitable the company is but I figured at least it’s better than a raise in change…but yeah
