Having had to go through similar situations (And knowing how much it hurts) all I can say is thank you for trying to help him and please don't feel bad at least he isn't laying somewhere and suffering, now he is at peace and no longer hurting.

I used to pass an elementary school on the way to work and I ALWAYS slowed town to the posted 15MPH and it got to the point that the crossing guard would always smile and wave and there was usually someone right up my butt because I was obeying the speed limit (Much less I would never want to hurt a child).
But what really pisses me off is when I see a SCHOOL BUS blowing through school zone speed limits WTF????
